Junge hurled classy ball for the Vets, holding the Paps to six hits and was given fine support. The Vets were on a hitting spree man on the club getting at least one hit, except Snow who went hitless. Roller was the hit- ting hero with a homer in the second and Bill Koshak starred afield with a circus catch in the final me that robbed Fred Schmitz of a homer. Vets Score In First Little Mac's wild throw opened the first frame and gave Koshak, Vet leadoff hitter life at first. Bill stole second an scored from on Diring: S | “The Moose counted t\ncc in their half. Bill Schmitz, Coughlin and Andrews nicked Junge for three singles in a row, Andy's scoring Bill and sending Bobby to third. He talded on a passed ball. The Vets came right back with an on slaught on Manning that netted them two runs and pointed the way to his retirement in the third. Roller greeted his old team- mate with a circuit drive into deep left ficld. Rodenberg sin- gled and pilfered second. Lowe singled to left and Rodenberg was caught at the plate trying to score from second on the hit. Grassy went to second on the throw and scored on Junge's triple into right center. ‘ Drive Manning Out The ex-Soldiers continued their attack in the third and Manning was sent to center, Converse go-! ing to the mound, after three runs were scored. Nowell opened the frame with a drive to left for a single. He was forced at second on Snow's fielder's choice. Snow went to second on a passed all, and stole third. McAlister walked and stole second. Andrews missed Roller's grounder. Snow scoring and McAlister taking third. Roden- berg doubled to deep center and both McAlister and Roller tallied. That was Manning’s end. Con- verse came in and forced Lowe to pop to Sternig at third and Bill Schmitz garnered in Koshak’s hard drive to left. From then until the seventh Converse tamed the Vets allowing but one hit, a single by McAlister, in the next three frames. In the fourth the Moose scored the third and final run. Lowe juggled Man- ning’s grounder long enough for Jimmy toreach first. He was forced at second on MacSpadden'’s fielder's choice and the latter scored on Sternig’s triple to right. That was the only extra base-hit made oir Junge. Five In The Seventh | The Vets broke loose again Xn the fifth to score five more runs that weren't needed. The Vets are now one full game ahead of the Bills and if they can take tomorrow'’s engagement will be hard to stop for the rest of the season. The best the Elks can do is to tie the standings if they win, while a victory for the ex-Soldiers will out them two games to the good. McAlister * is' due to take his turn on the mound Sunday. He worked in Wednesday’s game, which the Vets dropped in the fin- al frame. Manager Koski is due to start, but may send in MacSpad- den who seems to have something on the Vets who found Erskine easy Thursday night. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. It is scheduled for a nine-inning affair. | S e s oot bty ol ~mcomocomn~T ) & ol ocoonvmomcoln —————— Shop In Juneaun Smith Electric Co.
