THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE, SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 1934 MODSE OUTSLUG BILLS AND WIN BY § T0 3 SCORE Paps Get to KOS](] in Fifth Inning and Clout Ball for Eight Runs The Moose Shellacked the Elks last night by a score of 9 to 3, getting to Koski in the fifth in- for eight runs on six hits, ng a home run by Andrews, a walk and a fielder's choice. Mark Jensen started for the Paps and pitched steady ball until the sixth when two hits, an error and a walk permitted the Bills to score two runs and he gave way to Man- ning who blanked the Elks for the rest of the game. Oniy three hits were made off Jensen but he was as wild as a flaming youth, walking nine bat- ters and making one wild pitch. He fanned five and Manning fanned two. The Moose registered nine safeties off Koski, a homer, a triple and a two-bagger. Moose Score First . The Moose jumped over the home plate first in the opening of the season on a grounder that carromed into right field. Buss Orme cracked a hot one over the| pitcher's head and shoved his brother to seeond, and Jim con- tinued to third when Mark Jensen | had a hard time picking up the throw in. On a passed ball, Jim Orime scored as Mark Jensen dropped Coughlin's throw to the plate. Buss took third and scored when Koski singled, following Blake's walk. Then Mark Jensen decided to retire from the box and Manning silenced the Elks for the rest of the game. The game: ELKS— Livingston, Nello, rf. Garn, ss Erskine, 2b MasSpadden H., Orme, J, 1f. ... With one away, Coughlin drove a three bagger to the ‘cars and came home when Big Mac threw short and low to the plate on Andy's fielder's choice. In the next inning the Elks tied up the old ball game at one apiece, which was the way it stayed for a couple more innings. Both Orme brothers walked, but Jim died at the plate on Blake's fielder's choice, Buss winding up at third from where he scored on Living- ston’s out at first after Koski walked. Fifth Is Big Frame Came the fifth and fur began to fly with ' the Moose landing on Koski's deliveries to take an undis- puted hold on the game. With one away, Grummett walked and ad- vanced to second on Mark Jen- sen’s single to second. Bill Schmitz drove in Grummett and Mark to third on a double to left. Cough- lin batted a grounder down to Es- skine at second, but Erskine's throw to the plate was too late to nab Jensen. Then Andy made his first home run of the season, a long drive to deep right that bounced off Ev' Nowell’s car. Jack Schmitz and Manning followed with two clean singles. Molly MacSpadden struck out and the bases were filled when Livingston booted Fritz Schmitz's grounder to third. Grummett’s bounder to right pushed over the last two tallies for the Moose, making a total of eight for the inning and a grand total of nine for the game. A rally by the Elks in the next inning was nipped in the bud by Jimmy Manning's effective relief pitching. Jim Orme reached first when Andy made his first error SONGS OF ALASKA / By D. A.
