A THE LEGION BLANKS MOOSE SUNDAY IN NEW SERIES New Man ?Defealed Team Look Good—Lind- strom Goes on Mound Taking advantage of the weak- ess of the Moose on the mound, o Leglon yesterday pounded out urteen hits to capture the first ;ame of the second half from the rejuvenated Moose by the score of 16 to 0. MecAlister was in his usual form and whiffed fourteen of the Moose to apply the second coat- of whitewash in the League this season. Lindstrom started out effectively for the losers but ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth, after which Bill Schmitz stepped to the mound to finish the game. Extra base hits were rare. Two triples were recorded by Legion- naires, Junge and Rodenberg. Dir- inger forced Lindstrom to the fence on a double in the ninth. Should Click Some The new faces on the Moose team were rather silent at the plate, but played good fielding games and should click when the team has worked together. Molly MacSpadden, switched to short while Andy played first, starred on the field by scooping up several grounders. wild peg to first. It looked like a real old pitchers’ duel in the early innings, and for two innings neither side tallied, although the Moose got two men on the bags on a walk and hit bat- ter. In the third the Legion began to tip the scales on one hit and two errors. Fred Schmitz started the inning by letting Kashok's ground- er run through his legs. Kashok stole second and came home on Johnny McLaukhlin’s single to center. A wild pitch and an out at first pushed him to third, and he scored when Molly MacSpadden threw high and wide to first. Four In Fourth Again in the fourth the Legion- naires gathered momentum and tallied four times. After Stollard flied to short, Lowe singled through the mound. He stole second, waited while Roller walked, and both runners advanced a notch when Lindstrom threw the ball to centerfield in an effort to get Grassy at second. Junge's sin- gle scored Lowe. McAlister walked to fill the bags, and Diringer smacked one through short to push over Roller and Junge. Mc- Alister came home on Nowell’s sin-{ gle to left. Not until the fifth did the Moose even make a resemblance of a hit, and then Elmer Lindstrom hit tn center field. Bill Schmidt followed soon after with a single to left, but no runs scored as Rodenberg made | a great catch on Fred Schmitz's fly to left. Driven From Mound The Vets .drove Lindstrom off the mound in the sixth by annex- ing six counters. Junge's single scored Lowe and Roller. later Nowell scored Ken from third, and then Rodenberg added three more by socking a triple to deep center field with the bases full. It was a mighty swat. After Bill Schmitz too kover the pitching duties, the Legion team was taken into custody and only scored four runs. Two came in the seventh on Junge's triple and Nowell's single. After two were out in the ninth, Diringer scored Roller on a double, and came home himself on Nowell's hot drive through short. Two passed balls by Diringer ad- vanced Andy to third in the ninth for the Moose, but after Grummett | walked, McAlister struck out Lind- strom, and forced Molly to lift a fly to center. Hitting honors for the day go to Ev Nowell, who made four out of five to boost his average to an even .400. Pilfering honors went to Grassy Lowe who stole four bases during the game.
