THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE, SATURDAY JUNE 9, 1934. By BILLE DE BECK { sov,on,BOY ! T FEEL THREE N THE HAY === NOBODY BOTHERIN' ME ~ NO WORRIES ABOUT BULL FIGHTS — NO VETS WIN FRUM “MOOSE, 10 T0 6, AND TIE BILLS Spot Paps Five Runs in Flrsl but Rally to Win Behind McAlister After having spotted the Moose to a five run lead list night, the Veterans came back to win 10 to 6 behind the fine hurling of Ward McAlister who relieved Junge af- ter the first. The victory Shoved the ex-Soldiers into a first place tie with the Elks. | The Vets pounded Mark Jensen' for 15 hits including a home run by Joe Snow, and two-baggers by McLaughlin, McAlister and Nowell. Junge was ineffective but McAlis- ter held the Moose to three hits and a lone tally in the last six in- nings. Moose Have Big Inning The first was the big inning for the Moose and they piled on Junge for four hits and five runs to fin- ish his pitching for the evening. Bill Schmitz ran around to third on a single to left, a steal, and a passed ball. After H. Jensen had whiffed, Grummett cracked one down to Lowe too hard to handle and Bill scored. Grummett stole second and took third on War- ter's single. Fraser batted one down to Lowe at third, and Grassy had Grummett ten feet from the bag, but elected to try for first and threw wild, during which Grummett scored and Warter went to third. On Henderson, fielder’s choice, Warter was safe at the plate. Fraser's big lead off carried him around to third, and he scored when derson at first, and Snow kall Junge tried to spot Hen- let the from him. Mark get away DAYS I BEEN SWELL! struck out, and Bryan's| Jensen double to left brought in Frank | with the fifth run. _After Bu-| chanen was hit on the head, Bill| Schmitz, up for the second time,| lied to MeLaughlin. | { | After that McAlister tamed the | Moose, and only in the fifth were they able to make another run. ' Warter walked, and ‘becatise of al charley Horse, had H. Jensen Trun- ning for him. A stéal ahd Mark Jensen’s solid crack to center sent) in the last Moose run. | | The Legion started early in the | first and threatened to tie the score. After McLaughlin struck out Buchanen misjudged McAlister’s fly to right, and it went for a double, though Ward was caught stretch- ing it to third. Three solid smacks by Junge, Diringer and Nowell ac- counted for two runs, and Ev. ,scored on Stollard’s single. The Legion forged ahead in the third. Snow started with a long drive to center good for a home jrun, and both Stollard and Roden- | berg came home ahead of Me- Laughlin’s double, though the for- mer should have been out at sec- ond except for the fact that Hen- derson heaved wild to the bag. After two were out in the fourth, Mark Jensen just couldn’t keep the bags clear, and the result was a pay of runs. Bill Schmitz let Dir- inger’s grounder tarough him, Now- ell singled; and both runners scor- ed on Snow’s single to left. Again in the fifth, after two were out, the Legion annexed another pair of runs. McLaughlin singled, stole second, and came home after being trapped between third and the plate, but Fraser gave him life by losing Bill Schmitz's throw in the sun. During the play, Mc- Alister, who had singled to left. had advanced to third and came home on Junge's bingle. In the fifth, Rodenberg racca to the street to gobble Henderson's foul fly. Cold weather kept down the - size ‘of ~the ‘erowd, and also caused more errors than there have been lately. /\R I'ING MONDAY MORN NG AT OCIOCK WE WILL OFFER MANY ‘dTSCONT NUED LINESIOF MERCHANDISE AND WE'S STILL TOO SICK FOR EVEN ME TO SEE HIM -2 Vets MOOSE Schmitz, B., Jensen, H. 2b.
