IS STARRED IN Unusual Picture of Mater- nity, Life, Tragedy, Love Presented at Coliseum Unusual both in theme and treatment, “Life Begins” which opened last night at the Coliseum Theatre gives the movie audience its first intimate glimpse into thc“ workings of a hospital mawmm, ward and the lives and tragedi nfi\ of the women confined there. The delicate subject it deals with has been tactfully, yet most af- | fectionately handled by phe pro- ducers. Opening with the ry ol young woman serving a long ion sentence for murder, who is lowed to enter the hospital in to give birth to her child, attention of the audience is | drawn to the various other in- | mates of the war. There is Flor- ette, a pleasure loving lady of the night clubs who disdains her twins. A snobbish, intellectual young lady s fed on cold psychological 1 about the upbringing of s changes her mind when hers is born. Then there is a wo- | man who strays into their midst from the psychopathic ward, with fancies of becoming a mother and wanting advice. All these individual stories are | der | the |of the ward where doctors, nurs- es and students add their own par- ticular touch of color to the scene as a whole. The parts of the leaning young couple are played by Loretta Young ‘and Eric Linden, with Aline Mac- | Mahon prdhinently cast as the { head nurse. Every member of the large cast h.as an important part to play in the unfolding of the story. This | task is handled by Preston Foster, ‘Durothy Peterson, Glenda Farrell, | Frank McHugh, Gloria Shea, Eli- | zabeth Patterson, Walter Walker, | Reginald Mason, Gilbert Roland, Ruthelma Stevens, Mary Phillips, | Herbert Mundin, Helena Phillips, Hale Hamilton, Dorothy Tree, | Vivienne Osborne, Clara Blandick |and Terrance Ray.
