H. Ziegler, attorney, axrived home on the Victoria last night from a trip to Washington, D. C.! He was assured at the National capital that Alaskan Federal ap- pointments are to be speeded up and that Republican holdovers wil not serve out their terms, but will be replaced at once. Mr. Ziegler said that so far as he could learn J. W. Kehoe of Ketchikan has a clear field for appointment as District Attorney for the Third Division. He \aldl that W. T. Mahoney of Ketchikan had the endorsement of the or-j ganization and a ‘“clean bill of health” as capdidate for United States Marshal of the First Divis- ifon. Ziegler said that it was generally understood that S. Hel- lenthal of Juneau could be ap- pointed for another division, since reports made on him were favor- able, but there was som2 ques- tion whether Mr. Hellenthal would accept an appointment outside of the Firsi Division, owing to the fact that his home is in Juneau Mr. Ziegler said that he, found favorable mention in Washington among these who knew George F. Alexander and his family tradi- tions that he would make an ex- cellent judge for the First Divis- ion in Alaska, and’ that he was supported by both Democrats and Republians in Oregon, his home TYPEWRITERS | HALF Soles Men's DRESS SHOES . Mr. Ziegler very much doubts from what he learned that the entire slate in Alaska select- !ed by the Democratic organization } will' be "entirely followed in the selection of Federal appointments. He talked with Delegate A. J. Dimond and also met Emil Hurja, Yormer newspaperman in ' Alaska, now Farley’s right hand man for the selection of applicants for positions. He says that Hurja is| still the “live-wire” for action that he was as & newspaper man Alaska.
