Ahead of him lay a 1,000-mile voy- age which he expects to complete in a twelve-foof spruce rowboat he built with a knife and an ax. Larson, with all the perseverance of his Viking ancestors, is out to recover the fortune he has lost twice. He was a prosperous cabi- net-maker in Chicago when the crash of 1929 came. Unable to get work, he took his savings to Alaska where he worked in ‘canneries, prospected and saved more money. Back to Chicago After six months in Alaska, Lar- son returned to Chicago where his savings dwindled away and for two years he tried in vain to obtain funds with which to return to Alas- 1 ka. Finally, after six months' work { on a fishing schooner off the coast of New Jersey, he had enough to come West. Arriving in Seattle, he sold his tools for $5 and with the money bought lumber for the boat. [For _1five days on the vacant lot behind the City Light plant at Fourth Ave- nue South and Spokane Street, Larson worked. Down to Sea Workmen from the City Light him nails, oakum and tar for calking. Yesterday a truck owner, hearing of Larson’s beat, transported it to the foot of Spokane Street. And Larson, like his Viking an- cestors before him, shoved off for |the Far North to seek his fortune —_——.—e — FISHING BOATS TAKE ON ICE AND BAIT AT COLD STORAGE Fishing boats taking on ice at the Juneau Cold Storage Com- pany were, the Annie, Capt.
