First Hospital The first hospital in Juneau was | founded in 1886 by Sister Mary Zeno of the Sisters of St. Ann, who came to Juneau from Victoria, B. C, in an open boat in 1885, when Juneau was only a camp not extending beyond Second street. Thrée Sisters comprised the first staff and eight beds caplicity of the hospital, contrasted with the 75 beds to be provided | under the enlarged building pro- gram. It later was enlarged and was house in the building to be re- placed by the new structure, Sis- tet Mary Zeno, who had a faculty for organizing. and. financing the building of hespitals, remained in Juneau until, 1898, when she went to Dawson and organized and built the present hospital in the Yukon capital, In she returned to Juneau and alned until 1918. dedication On Octaber 8, 1914, the present!
