The vase was found in a tomb in Rome in the 16th century. It| stands 10 inches high and in milk- {white cameo against its dark bady is told the love' story of Peleus and Thetis. For cenjfuries its composition puzzled experts—what was the ma- terial that shone so black on winter days, but shed a deep, lustrous blue | in' summer’s sun? Tn 1845 a scene painter, William Lioyd, invaided the museum with & hammer and smashed the vase, ‘Then 1 was found to be glass. . sengers Are Taken to Way Ports With a large cargo and five passengers, the molorship Este- ser Robert Coughlin, departed last evening on her regular weekly cruise to Sitka.
