Smart April wardrobes are being fashioned around the nucleus of this new .design—trim, young as a sehoolgirl. Sleeves of -the little often are short—a mere cap over the shoulder; their waistlines are two inches above the normal belt, their skirts trim ‘and plain with hemlines about 12 inches fromlhel, ground. Their belts of bright hued yarns, plaited leathers or wool faced with some gay color generally are their sole ornament. The little wraps which make them ready for the street may be brief | fitted jackets ending at the hip-| bones, waistlength boleros or short capes attached to the belt in the back. Matching combinations rule, although striped jackets ofter. |are worn with plain colored frocks and plain jackets with plaid or checked: frocks. Scarfs Are Chic The scarfs of the costumes make them chic. A grey wool jersey frock. worn with a matching waistlength Jjacket has a scarf of zebra striped jersey in crimson, grey and black. A blege wool dress with a short bolero wrap is finished with a biege, brown and green scraf of pieced silk strips, and a dark blue costume has a grey crocheted sitk scarf tied like a man’s fore-in-hand. Most of .the scarfs are worn wrapped closely about the throat or tied in a brisk bow on one side. Biege, gray, blue are the favorite colors for these little costumes, alihoughleat green, wood brown, tomato red and coral red are seen in quantities. AT THE HOTELS Gastineau ! Paul E.
