Lone Defender,” serial, featuring Rin Tin Tin, showing for the last times tonight, at the Capitol The- ater, “Never The Twain Shall| Meet,” will be the headline attrac-| tion, and “The Devil's Cabaret,” the added comedy tomorrow, the first presentation being at the aft- ernoon matinee. In “Branded,” Ethel Kenyon, wife of Eddie Sutherland, Paramount director, is Buck Jones' leading lady. - Ethel loves dogs. She has a dog and his name is “Thomas.” Why “Thomas” instead of just plain “Tom” is one of Miss Kenyon's secrets, but the fact remains the snooty canine won't answer to any- thing but this high-sounding name. Pup Upstages Everybody Miss Kenyon brought him over to the Columbia studios during the filming of “Branded” and the pup upstaged everyone, who tried to abbreviate his monicker. In “The Lone Defender,” the photography is excellent. The scen- ic beauty of the American desert, terrible and startling in the mad storm, and the romantic pictur- esqueness of the Mexican border has never been more lavishly spread upon a screen. South Sea Romance “Never The Twain Shall Meet” is a South Sea island romance. The story is based on the old saying that East is East and West is West. It is a dramatic struggle between the fierce passion of the native and the more conservative love of the white. Leslie Howard makes an ideal characterization of the young 'Am- erican who is torn between infatua- tion for one of another race and love of a girl of his own kind. Conchita Montenegro, as the lit- tle South Sea “island siren who lures Howard away from his own race with her native wiles, seems to be a living part of the islands. Looks Like Real Native Her slight accent, coal black hair and flashing black eyes, coupled with her sinucus dancing, leave the impression that here is a real na- tive of the South Seas. Others in the cast are C. Aud- rey Smith, Karen Morley, Mitchell Lewis, Hale Hamilton, Clyde Cook, Bob Gilbert, Joan Standing and Eulalie Jensen. The Devil's Cabaret “The Devil's Cabaret,” with the sprightly Eddie Buzzell as chief funmaker, is a satire on life in the, infernal regions. Burrell plays the star salesman of His Satanic Maj- esty, conducting a “Go to Hades” drive. Catherine Moylan, Charlés B. Middleton, Mary Carlisle and the ‘Albertina Rasch Ballet are in the cast. HUNTERS FROM SITKA HERE FOR FEW DAYS Before taking the field™ for a 10-day deer hunt, four nimrods from Sitka arrived here Friday on the gasboat Sveta Ana, and will add a_fifth to the party when it sails from port next Monday morn- ing. The Sitka hunters are: Charles Wortman, William Cook, Pete Knutsen and Ed. Hansen. Eller Hanson, former Sitka resi- dent who recently moved here, will join the party when it leaves. They plan to hunt on the south and west of Admiralty Island and the areas bordering Peril’ Strait. The Sveta Ana is owned by Knutsen and Hansen who have a contract to supply the Sitka cold storage plant with herring for freezing and also sell fresh herring direct to the halibut fishermen. —le \Canned Salmon Takes 15-cent Advance On Seattle Market ‘Canned salmon prices were yesterday boosted 15 cents per dozen on the Seattle market, acording to an As- sceiated Press report received today by The Empire. They are now back to the level of last August. The new quotations on pinks are $1 per dozen and on chums 90 cents. An an- nouncement from the Pacific Salmon Sales Corporation said about 20 operators; in- cluding the largest factors, are following the new prices. 000000000000 HOARDING OF MONEY STOPS, SAYS HOOVER Upward Trend in Publlc Confidence Is Be- ing Indicated WASHINGTON, D. M. be shown for the last times to- night at the (Coliseum theatre. “Anybody’s Woman," starring Ruth Chatterton and Olive Brook, will be the headline offering at the Coliseum theatre tomorrow, the first presentation being at the aft- ernoon matinee. “Under Suspicion” is a Fox Movietone song romance with its scenes lald in the Canadian North- west. It is replete with humor and has a strong cast. In “Anybody's Woman,” the plot is a highly polished treatment of sltuations and manners. Brook, suavely eloquent to the flick of a clgarette ash, is a man of stand- ing deserted by his wife. Slightly piflicated and on the loose, he meets Miss Chatterton, show-girl at liberty following the close of production in a decency crusade. Lives Up to Contract Several hours later Brooks finds himself married to her, and in true sportsmanship lives up to the contract He is ostracised by his friends, only a wealthy client con- tinuing cordial relations; this, for purpose disclosed later at a party in which Miss Chatterton Is the only woman guest. Certain ad- vances made' at the gathering, Brook's attitude toward the conduct of his wife and benefactor, the re- appearance of his first spouse and ;the adjustment indicating happi- ness under approved relations, con- something to think about.
