Italian bankers have reform- ed Albania’s economic structure. Streets, bridges, ports, govern- ment buildings, hospitals, schools itestify to Itallan influence. The imposing new port of Durazzo is about ready. One ‘thousand small bridges and 50 big ones have been built by Ttalians over rivers flowing down jfrom the Albanian alps. Two ‘hun- |dred miles of modern roads are | nearing completion. Bankers Aid Italian experts founded numer- ous trade and vocation schools, in- stituted numerous exchange schol- arships bringing Albanians into Ttaly, an organization for physical education for 50,000 children, cham- bers of commerce, civil aviation lines, which in proportion to their areg are among the most efficient in Europe. A group of Italian bankers also organized the Albanian bank of emission. This has so stabilized the currency that the Albanian franc is comparatively as strong as the French franc. Italians remade the fiscal ad- ministration of Albania, began im- portant soundings for oil, reformed the agricultural system, started mineral researches, improved breed- ing of domestic animals. This interchange of Italian ideas, influence, men and money with Al- bania, is legally backed by two treaties, one of November, 1926, for “friendship and security” and the! other, of November, 1927, for “de- fensive alliance.” ‘ il v, ¥ ——— DON'T''FORGET the dance af Elks' Hall Saturdsy night. ad! had run away.
