THE DAILY ALASKA EMPIRE, SATURDAY, SEPT. 5, 1931. e LianBver v IDanup He first Monday in September is always Labor Day. It is the one day out of three hundred and sixty-five in‘which sufficient dramatic importance is attached to Labor, that most vital factor in the progress of civiliza- tion. ‘Fabor Day, as a calendar holiday, may not hold the breathless excitement of Christmas, or the pleasant solemz;ity of Easter; it lacks the sentimental loyalty of Decoration Day, and the patriotic fanfare of the Fourth of Jfily, and yet it Embodies all of these emotional re- actions.in its tremendous significance to the people of all lands. Throughout the year, Labor works diligently, day in, day out, furthering industry, art, science, civilization. Its reward lies in the world’s progress; its honor in this day set aside in behalf of the efforts of this most necessary contribution to human achievement.
