C., July 6.— (Special Correspondence)—The City Council at Fairbanks has wired ‘a request that the General Land Of- fice issue a modified deed to their park grounds, so that they might be held in trust for park and re- creational purposes and for public utilities, including the establish- ment and maintenance thereon of airport buildings and air naviga- tion facilities. The Pacific Inter- national Airways, who have the mail contract for the lower river, Nome and Kuskokwim points, say that they will establish headquar- ters there if they are assured title to leased space, and that they are anxious to immediately commence the construction of necessary hang- ars. The role of “The Medicine Man” is the one for which Jack Benny seems especially fitted. Miss Bron- son enacts the role of Mamie Goltz, small-town beauty who cap- tivates the Medicine Man. Eva No- vak plays a Swedish girl character, Others in the cast are Tom Dugan and Georgie Stone. Careless Life of Wealthy “Man Slaughter” is an introduc- | 1 tion to the careless, carefree life of the wealthy, their gay parties, their nerve-tingling sports, their light, laughing love affairs. But it is also a grim melodrama that shows how a beautiful daughter of | by means of a great tragedy and a powerful love, Claudette Colbert has the role that calls for all her youth and beauty and acting talent. “Man- slaughter” is considered to be one of Paramount’s outstanding pic- tures of the season. Miss Colbert, as the petted so- ciety beauty, falls in love with Fredric March, young, handsome, ambitions district attorney and at- tempts to twist him around her finger just as she has dozens of other suitors. March is of different stamp, however, and remonstrates with her against her thoughtle: selfish life: Arrested for speeding she bribes | a traffic policeman. March tries | to tell her that she is contributing | to the ruin of the man by such action. She laughs at him. Her maid is convicted of stealing | and the society butterfly is too lazy to lift a finger to save the girl from a stiff prison sentence, Fast automobile driving is her| greatest pleasure, but, when in one | of these escapades, she kills a traf- | fic policeman, she is partially awak- | ened to a sense of responsibility. | March, as district attorney, has to | prosecute her for the crime and | she is sent to prison.
