Jeff Beard, brother of Pency Beard, holder of the world’s record for the 70-yard high hurdles and Clympic candidate, has been elected to captain the Auburn track team next year. The younger man is a versatile performer, taking part in several events, but, special- BUSTER KEATON IN ‘DOUGH BOYS' NOW AT CAPITOL War in All Its Funny An- geles Comes to Silver Screen War in all its funny angles—and the picture proves that there are thousands of them—is the theme (of Buster Keaton's talking come- dy “Dough Boys,” showing tonight at the Capitol the- atre. The new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer picture shows Keaton as a mil- lionaire’s son who eniisted for the late unpleasantness. His troubles in training camp and at the trenches make a rip-rearing com- edy of errors, with cannon to right of him, to left of him and a hard- boiled top sergeant always behind him, * Authentic Bafitle Scones A novel idea was carried out in filming the picture. The . battle scenes are as authentic as |skill could make them — spectacular fights, with a thousand men and tons of ammunition, real army equipment and army officers in charge. Keaton klunders through the war to come out a hero in spite of him- self. Sally Eilers is charming as the heroine, his sweetheart 'in the entertainment unit. Cast Is Strong Cliff Edwards and his trusty ukulele come in for plenty of comedy, too, and Cliff warbles “Sing” for the edification of one and all. Edward Brophy playsthe tough sergeant and extracts much comedy from the role, and Pitzy Katz, Victor Potel and others are in the fun brigade. Frank Mayo is convincing as the captain and Arnold Korff as the German valet who turns German soldier. Edward Sedgwick directed the picture and appears in the picture too as the camp cook i na brief sequence. AUXILIARY CHIEF MAKES ADDRESS T0 JUNEAU UNIT (Continuea ez Page One) to var:ous organizations andtothe general public for their liberal pur- chases of poppies and wreaths. The response this year was very will- ingly and freely given. The sale| of poppies is one of the important yearly events in the Auxiliary and every cent received from sales ’ls spent for the welfare of dis- {abled veterans and their families. ! Range and Furnace | The Auxiliary has purchased an electric range for the kitchen in the Dugout, which adds consider- ably to the facilities of the meeting place of Legionnaires and Auxili- ary members. This, in addition to the new furnace which has been installed in the building by the American Legion Post, makes the Dugout a very cogfortablc place in which to hold the meetings of the Post and the Auxiliary Unit. The meeting last night was the last of the Auxiliary until the first Thursday in September. After the meeting, refreshments were rved. e ] In Both One and On Display for Hosiery, F et Hats, Berets DRESSES which begins | Two-Piece Models Your Approval “Juneaw’s Own Store” “Tomorrow’s Styles LUM Juneau Lumber Mills, Inc.
