Y t By ARTHUE THURNSLAD (World’s Champion, Three Cushion Billiards) ARTICLE I | Anybody can he a billiard player. | There is no such thing as a born | The most important fundamentals | connécted with the billiard game‘ aré the “bridge hand” cn the table, the “grip” of manner of helding’ ice,” or position at the table. These three combined are produc- tive of the all important correct stroke. First consider the grip. The cue | is held by the first two fingers and the thumb. In reality the cue rests on the first two fingers and is held secure by the thumb. The upper side of the cue must not be firm against the flesh and the two emaller fingers must not be touch- ing the cue. This grip insures a free wrist movement, which is necessary. The action should be ecnly from the el- bow down when a shot is made. For the “bridge hand” form a circle with the thumb and first finger, placing the tips of each together. Spread the other three fingers apart, with the middie fin- ger downward towards the paha of the hand. Slide th2 t end of the cue through the circie vassing over the top of the middle finger. Now close the ci around the cue until both finge) nd thumb are touching on all sides. The must not be held tco firmly there must not be spacz for cue to vibrate sidew Now place your table, using just en make the bridge firm. You now have the correct 2rip and bridge and are ready to shoot. The next lesson will tak2 up the stance at the table and the shct. SEARCH SEA FOR MISSING L.
