John Jo-| hansen, arriv in port from the westward at 2 o'clock this morning ‘after completing a trip to Seward and other ports. 7 On May 27, a report was sent out by radio that the Oduna was i while westbound, stranded on a beach in Prince Willilam Sound.; Those on the ship said this morn- ing that she was sent on the beach sideways by a strong drift, while making a turn. o ) The scene of the accident was near the Granite Mine at Port Wells. She hit a gravel bar and' had a solid bed to lay on while the tide receded The Oduna was floated about 24 hours after she went aground, and apparently was |undamaged This morning she loaded 114,000 }teet of heavy clear lumber, shipped from the Juneau Lumber Mills to the Northwest Spruce Company of Seattle. She sailed at 10:15 a.m. for the south. | The Tanana, Capt. A. W. Wester- holm, arrived in port from the south yesterday afternoon. In ad- dition t6 her regular cargo she car- ried three Chevrelets, one Eessex and one White truck for Juneau. Before sailing she took aboard 15,000 shooks for the Emel Pack- ing Company of Valdez and 1600 ties for the Alaska Railroad. C., date line of May 30, the Seattle Times carries the following item: The new Canadian National pas- senger amship Prince Henry, which will go on the Alaska run, left Birkenhead, England, for this port Wednesday, according to’ad- vices received by B. C. Keeley, Pa- ciffc Coast manager of the Cana- dian Na al steamships. The ves- sel is commanded by Capt. J. M. Gilbert of this port and manned by a skeleton crew. The new vessel, which recently completed her trial, with an average speed of 23'% knots, will complete the voyage in 20 days arriving in Vancouver June 18. She will sail on her first voyage up the picturesque coastline on July 3, with Skagway as her destination. En route to Vancouver the Prince Henry will call at Fayal in the Azores, St. Thomas in the West Indies, Colon, Acapulco in' Mexico ¢ and San Pedro. At the latter port QOapt. Donald Donald, commodore skipper of the Canadian National fleet, will take command of the vessel and bring her to British Columbia waters, Sister ships of the Prince Henry are_the Prince Robert and Prince David, rapidly nearing completion and which will be ready for their trials shortly. These two vessels will start the tri-city service of| the Canadian National between| Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle in, August DOR.
