Actor has visited Ju- neau before. He directed the self- denial campaign with the aid of Capt. Tobin last year. He spends much of his time visiting the vari- ous Salvation corps and directing the work throughout his field. - - eee A. G. NELSON ° ‘ FRENCH RATE HELEN AS SURE TITLE SHOT| PARIS, May 15—The French feminine singles title at tennis is conceded to be a gift for Miss Helen Wills, should she compete in the international hardcourt champion- ships beginning at the Roland Gar- ros Stadium, May 19. French tennis fans and’' officials are quite reconciled to the idea that a foreign woman will capture the French title. They point.to Miss Wills as the favorite with Senorita de Alvarez granted an out- side ehance. The French however, are not pre- pared to make any such conces- sion as regards the men's cham- pionship. With Cochet, Lacoste, Borotra, Brugnon, Boussus, Landry, DeBuz- elet and the recently reinstated Paul Feret to draw from, they feel rather secure that the title won last year by Cochet will remain in France. France will have to pit its hopes in the women's singles upon the veteran Madame Bordes, who as Mademoiselle Broquedis won the Olympic championship at Stock- holm' in 1912 and later as Madame Billout was Suzanne Lenglen's keenest adversary for several years. Madame Golding another veteran of pre-war tennis battles and Mad- ame Vaussard have practically re- tired. Even the most rabid French fans admit that none of the ranking women players has a ghost of a chance to defeat either Miss Helen | Wills or Senorita de Alvarez. It is doubtful if any of them can ever | capture a single set from Miss, Wills. e . et NOTICE B. P. O..
