SEATTLE, Feb. 27—After lying idle at Dutch Harbor, Alaska, since February 9, because of a broken turbine, the freighter Havelas, for- mer Shipping Board vessel, has been sold for scrap and will be towed to Japan according to rep- resentatives of the Hammond Lum- ber Company, owners. The freighter is loaded with 4,- 000,000 feet of lumber taken on at | Willapa and Puget Sound ports. The tow from Dutch Harbor to Yokohama, a distance of 2,783 miles, is one of the most difficult ever un- dertaken on the Pacific. The former German passenger | liner #Susquehanna has also been sold for scrap. This craft sailed from Everett January 30 and ar- rived at Yokohama last Saturday, loaded Mth lumber. 21,000 POUNDS HALIBUT SOLD Twenty-one thousand pounds of halibut sold on the local market to- day at prices of 9 and 6 and 10 and 5 cents. The fish selling was from six to nine days old and was the catch of the Emlem, 2200 | pounds; T-39, 1,700 pounds; Hyper- ian, 7,000 pounds; Dagney, 3,000 pounds; Vician, 6,500 pounds and Two buyers, Alaska Fish Brokers and San Juan, took the total sold San Juan, at 9 and 6 cents took the cargo of the T-39.
