Charles Rudy, who is caring for the pheasants in captivity at; Goldstein’s fox ranch, and Mrs.| J., B. Marshal, who is raising pheasants at her fox farm, re- port the birds are thriving. Taylor Takes Initiative Mr. Taylor has been instrumen- tal in getting the birds into Alas- ka and himself purchased the first bunch ever to come into the Territory. He has also shipped | some to other places but these! experiments were failures as the birds were not properly cared for. ' He expects to ship a number of | cggs to Judge E. Bunnell of the Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines, where they| will be hatched, and the chicks raised. At Goldstein’s ranch, where th(:; birds were taken from town, they!| were let loose from time to time.| Some would return every few, days, but gradually grew away, frgm their wire homes. It is probable the birds seen a! Eagle River are a product of the orig- inals brought to Juneau. Game Commission Helps It is the purpose of Mr. Taylor, and the Alaska Game Commis- sion, which is backing him in the enterprise, to populate the Terri- tory with the pheasant in order to give hunters another variety of upland birds. At the present time there is a law agafnst shooting pheasants, and anyone convicted of such an act is liable to a minimum fine of $25 or a maximum penalty of $500 fine and six months impris, % onment or both. This law puts Scout | !Los Angeles 3; an indefinite closed season on this fowl, and no one will be al- {lowed to hunt the birds antil i is deemed advisable to establish an open season after their num ber has increased. - > GAMES WEDNESDAY Pacific Coast League Seattle 2; Mission 7.
