Edith E. Pickles. | LIVERPOOL, Englahd, May 24. —Three ordained women pastors, pioneers amcng women recruits to the minist in England, among the leaders of 1,200 mod ern pilgrims who soon: will the New World. The group, made up of mem- bers of the British Congr tional church, will sail from Liv- erpool on June 2 in the White Star liner “Celtic,” to follow the track of the Mayflower and visit places associated with' the Pilgrim Fathers. The women leaders are the Rev. Mary Collins, pastor of the North Bow church in East London; the Rev. Edith Pickles, who has suc-y ceeded her husband as pastor of| the Stanley Congregational church in Liverpool, and the Rav. Doro- thy Wilson, who is assistant pas- tor of Carr's Lane church, Birm- ingham, one of the best known of non-conformist churches in Eng Jand. There is little resemblance be- tween the modern pilgrimage and the trip of the first Pilzrims to America. Gin and brandy were a part of the Mayflmvur‘s cargo, and beer was the daily “washer down” of the “bacon, hard tack,| ‘salt beef, smoked herring and cheese” which was the fare oly ‘the mariners enroute to the land| of plenty, but all alcoholic bever- i Aages have been tabooed by the congregational pilgrimage, in de-| ference to the American prohi-! bition laws and their own tem-; perance ideas. Moreover, excel- Jent cooks will provide viands be- ond the skill of the pilgrim' mo- her, with her simple “frying pan d kettle heated over a fire on @ box of sand.” . Bathrooms, wireless, phono- graphs, music afd dancing, will be other featurcs enjoyed aboard the “Celtic” which were missed by the early Pilgrims. The modern pilgrimage was or-| ganized by the Rev. A. G. Sleep, secretary of the Colonial Mission- ary society, and a native of Ply- mouth, England, from which the Mayflower sailed 300 years azo. It was his association with the Port " ot the Pilgrim Fathers which sug- gested the modern pilgrimage. « 3 His fellow organizer is the Rev. ticnaiists are coming to visit|_ places made histcric by the Pilgrim Fathers and leading the pil-|’ grimage, which leaves Liverpool for Boston June 2, are the Rev. |, Mary Colllins (upper right) and| S. W. Berry, secretary of the Con gregationalist Union and former- ly pastor of the Carr'’s Lane church. The party will land in Bo on June 11. At Plymouth, M a service of red n to !hv deals of the Pilgrim thers will take place on the famous Ply- mouth Rock. Congregationalists of Amarica will meet to welcome the visitors in Boston and in New York, when distinguished Americans will ad- dress the audience. It is expected that President Coolidge, who is a Congregational. ist, will receive the party during their visit to the United States, Kansas City Home Made DeMolay Headquarters KANSAS CITY, May 24—A fine old stone mansion among rugged elm and maple trees is the new international headquarters of the Order of DeMolay. Land and his staff direct the affairs of | the Order of DeMolay, the Inter- national DeMolay Alumni and the Order of Chivalry. ° | The Order of DeMolay was) started in Kansas City nine years ago as a club of nine young men pledged to clean living. It now has more than 1,700 chapters in 1,500 cities and séven countries. The order is” non-sectarian. Al- though * sponsored by the Free: masons, it is not a junior Ma- sonic fraternity.
