William Daucett, master of the vessel, was made today by Mr. Goldstein. Of 74 gross tons and 50 toms mnet, 76 feet in length, with a beam of 18 feet and depth of 8% feet, the Sitka is the largest ves- sel in the Juneau halibut fleet, taking the position at the head of the fleet formerly held by the Ex- Plorer, Capt. Magnus Hanson, She will fish from Juneau now and bring her catches here, ac- cording to Mr. Goldstein. A crew of ten men, headed by Capt. B. WASHINGTON, Feb. 17—The | government went out of the ship | ping business on the Pacific Coast when the Shipping Board sold the emaining three cargo lines for 743,000. In making the sale of the three concerns the hipping Board |33 ended the controversy which has raged for months over whether the lines would be sold for five year or ten year guarantees, with advocates of the five year pre- vailing. The American-Australia-Orient Line operating 21 ships from San Francisco and Los Angeles, was sold to the Corporation Naviga- tion Company; Oregon-Oriental Line, with 11 ships operating from Portland, Oregon, was sold to a corporation headed by K. D. Daw- son, and the Portland-American- Oriental Mail Line, of seven ships, operating from Puget Sound ports, was sold to the Tacoma-Oriental Steamship Company. AMERICAN TANKER EXPLODES; CAPTAIN, 13 OF CREW KILLED TOKYO, Feb. 17.—The Cap- tain and 13 members of the crew of the American tanker Chuky were killed when the vessel ex- ploded last Wednesday.
