Master and Pilot of Steam- ers on Alaska Route, Passes Away Funeral services for Capt. Ed ward D. Hickman, s old veteran Seattle mariner, who died at the Seattle Swedish Hospital were held in the But- terworth Chapel at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon of last week Lin Seattle. The services were “sonducted by the Rev D. O. % Powers, Pastor of Seattle Com- ‘munity Church. saptain Hickman was born at Port Townsend and began going to sea in the early 80's. His first command was the steamship Port- land, which took the first con- signment of treasure to Seattle during the Klondike gold rush He.also was master of the steam- sbip. Admiral Wainwright, which was operated to the Orient by .~ the Pacific Steamship Company. Captain Hickman was master at differnt times of the steam- ships Admiral Watson, Admiral Farragut, Admiral F and o Jeanie and also served a pilot % in-the Alaska routes for many *° years. He retired from the sea in 1921.
