SALARY FOR JUDGE REED COMING UP Controversy Is Discussed in| House But No Action | WASHINGTON, Jan. 10.—The controversy hetween the Senate and President Coolidge over the appointment of a sucessor to Fed- M. Reed, First Di- vision of Alaska, was discussed yesterday in the House but no action was proposed Representative Florello H. T Guard'y, Republican of N York, during the i of the Department of Justice ap-| f propriation bill, said the funds had been made to include those for Judge Reed. However he was not mentioned by name, and the New Yorker inquired how long he was to continue in office, in view of the fact the Senate h: refused to confirm him for an- other term and that the Presi- dent had failed to recommend a successor. Representative Carl R. Chind- biom, Republican of Illinois, said Judge Reed would continue in office until his successor had heen appointed and he and La- Guardia agreed that without specific legislative action it would be impossible to prevent in- clusion of the funds for Judge Reed’s salary.
