And this is particularly in point when there is no company, corporation or association of record in the Territory bearing that title. Nor do any of the offices in the city carry a legend ghowing where it is housed. One wonde too, why it was degmed necessary, or at least ad- visable, to have the document mailed out of a city g0 distant as the national capital. And in a plain envelope on which no return address was carried and no return postage guaranteed. Under such circumstances, the average citizen need not be criticised if he regards the form letter with suspicion. In fact, the need for shrouding its origin in secrecy, while not apparent, must in- cite distrust. The mail bag carries many things. ‘It has earried anonymous letters before now and will probably continue to do so as long as there are people who feel the urge for anonymity. And the circular that bears the sh{llulurb “Peo- ples Legislative Service, Juneau,” is not less anonymous than if it bore no signature at all. WORK AHEAD FOR “BIG BILL.” ‘When, and if, Mayqr “Big Bill¥ gets rid of the “British propaganda’” books in . the books of the Chicago Library, gets written ‘a history in which there is no pro-English text, there still remains a big task ahead of him. And undoubtedly he is the man for the under- king in which, if successful, the least reward tailed should be his elevation lo\lln- Presidency of the United Stat ¥ The English influence on the geography of the _ ‘United States is large. The map of the country shows how its pernicious activity has spotted up country with names of English places to the ntage of the real America. For instance | up in the northeastern part of the country there a group of commonwealths known as the New nd States. Think of it! Then the indi- commonwealths—New York State, New ire, New Jersey, named after English _shires and islands, not to mention Mary- Wl!a ‘the Carolinas and Georgia, named b kings lld queens Phen look at sone Thompson L RIDAY, NOV. 25 1927. placed upon the potential import- ing as a food fish, as well as valuable species, such salmon and halibut. Many of the claims made, however, do not seem to be supported by conyincing evi- dence, and it is by no means clear that the industry can rightly be held responsible for the conditions complained of, even if they really exist. Further, little notice is taken of the fact that herring fishing is already greatly vestricted. Such facts as are known scarcely warrant the asumption that the herring in Southeast Alaska is being depleted, or that the toll taken of the supply is in any way excessive. Probably the grum-xt cause of present complaint is the short- {age of herring for bait, and in this connection it is stated that herring no longer frequent many localities where bait was formerly taken. Most of these localities, however, are far removed from the fishing grounds of the curing and re- much stress ance of the he food for more “Turn backward, oh time— let's be young again” —says Taxi Tad Gather together a few kiddies —and treat them to a ride in Phone duction industry. The trouble is that nobody knows much about the herring—their habits, whether or not there is any likelihood of depletion, their rela- tions to other fisheries. All sorts of ertions are made, but the real facts are almost entirely lunknown. It will not be denied that the future of the fishery. should be protected: but restrie- Itions of a fairly drastic nature have already been adopted to this end, and it would seem reasonable before taking further action to ascertain the facts of the situation. | wahl v PHONE 199 Agents for SUNOCO Motor Oil IR R i TR If things keep on, the Senmator who is not either a Presidential candidate or the father % JAPANESE TOY of & boom for some aspirant, simply wil mot| [ SHOP / H.
