The yield per acre of wheat in England and Wales is forecast at ' nearly 17 hundredweight per acre, |or one-quarter hundredweight be- low the last ten years' average. Barley and oats are slightly above the average yield, but the condi- tion of the grain, farmers say. 1leaves much to be desired, and | much of it will have to remain in ! fore it is marketable. Root foods such as turnips ani carrots made good top growlh during September, but the roots themselves are inclined to be ra- ther small owing to the lack of sunshine. The harvest thls year has” been considerably delayed, as is shown by the alterations in the words of harvest hymns at some of the chur , “Some is safely gather- ed in” being substituted for “All is safely gathered in.” NOTICE Party taking grey overcoat by mistake from A.
