Taking advantage of listless ball playing by the Elks last night, the Miners piled up enough runs in the first three innings to win nine to five. Their victory gives them a two-game lead for the championship in 'the first half of the series and makes it hard to head them off. Mosher, who started for the Miners was nicked for nine safeties but tightened in the pinches while his mates gave _him almost gilt edge support. Quist started for the Elks was hit safely six times and his support was wobbly. The Miners scored all their runs while he was on the mound Bernhofer Holds Miners Bernhofer relieved Quist at the be ginning ‘of the fourth inning. The first three men to face him singled, filling the’ bags! And they were the last to get hits. “Duteh” pulled him- self out of the hole, starting a fast double killing, and then threw ths third man out. From then on he was never real danger. Oliver's throe base clout, Cum mings' two-bagger and later one for three bags, and a two-base hit by MacSpadden were the hitting feat- ures.
