The return of United States Senator W. E. Borah to Wash- ington after spending the sum- mer in Idaho meeting his consti- tuents and conferring with his friends and other developments politically within this state, have given rise to considerable spec- ulation as to the trend the poli- |! tical situation has taken. That Senator Borah returned to Wash ington well satisfied is well known. It is also unlikely there will as ‘a result be any split with- in the party; that Senator Borah will be renominated to succeed himself and go before the peopie for re-lection. His nomination will come from his own party— the republican. There seems to be a well de- fined movement on the part of republican leaders to avoid any conflict within the party. While there are radicals on both sides, the more conservative leaders who control affairs believe they have the situation well in hand and that calm will prevail in place of a contest. Senator Borah was called back to Washington D. C. by Presi- dent Coolidge to give him first hand information regarding the farming conditions of the coun- try from which sections a great deal of complaint has come the last few months.
