George Waterman, former | president of the Kamiah State | bank at Kamiah who was found | guilty Wednesday by a jury at Nezperce, of sending false re- ports of the condition of his bank to the state department of finance, was Saturday given the maximum sentence allowed by law by Judge Wallace N. Seales eighteen months to three years in the state penitentiary at Boise , and a fine of $1,000. An application made for bail to obtain Waterman’s release pending the filing of an appeal has been denied. It is thought that Waterman will be taken to | Boise to begin serving his sen- tence as soon as a guard from the penitentiary can arrive. In the meantime he is being held in | the county jail at Nezperce. Leslie Roth, former assistant | cashier of the Kamiah State | bank, Saturday paid a fine of $500, imposed in court at Nez- | perce Friday when he _ pleaded | guilty to a technical violation of Bs ew 2 en tw oeonammmmmmnsenentoenanhoainenrnnesete pA state banking laws. Roth | withdrew a former plea of not }guilty. The states attorney re- commended leniency when it was learned that Roth committed the | offense when he was 19 years old. There still remains, hanging }over Waterman’s head a federal indictment, the charge being practically the same as the one for which he was convicted at Nezperce. At the completion of his penitentiary term at Boise he will have to face the federal charge which accuses him of falsifying the reports of the Na- tonal bank at Clarkston which |also closed its door at the time | the Kamiah State bank failed. | FARM BUREAU NEWS. | A general farm bureau meet- | ing has been called by President | N. B. Pettibone to be held at the Odd Fellows hall in Cottonwood Saturday June 3d at 10 o’clock, The purpose of this meeting is to familarize the farmers of the county with the Producers and | Shippers Transportation League, an organization recently formed to secure a freight reduction for |Idaho, Nez Perce, Lewis and | Lewis and Clearwater counties | in Idaho and Asotin in Washing- | ton. This undertaking has met with the approval of the Farm | Bureaus and Commercial organi- zations of the several counties, and the machinery has already been set in motion for getting our case before the Inter State Commerce Commission. Mr. A. E. Holcomb of Craig- mont, President of the organiza- tion and local men will explain the purpose and aim of the league. The Idaho County Fair will also be discussed at this meeting. A Fair Association having been formed at Grangeville Tuesday, May 23d, with a representative body of farmers, stockmen and other business men of the county participating. No one interested in Idaho county can afford to miss this meeting, and in order to dispose of these two very important mat- | ters it is necessary that we start | promptly at 10 o'clock. Carl M. Grayson, County Agricultural Agent. WILL INSTALL PUMP. The Cottonwood Battery and Welding Shop will install a 500 gallon gasoline tank and pump for the purpose of retailing gaso- line to the public. The pump which is expected to arrive by the last of the week is the latest type and the tank is one solid mass of metal, being electric welded which eliminates all rivets. The above named firm also made arrangements yesterday with the Lewiston Motor Co., of Lewiston, who are the agents for the Dodge car in this territory and in the future will conduct the Dodge service station at this point. They will also carry a complete line of extras for the Dodge cars which is good news to all Dodge owners in this section. Cottonwood for some time has been without a Dodge service station.
