Enthusiastic baseball meeting was held Sunday afternoon in ¥ithe Knights of Pythias club *|room. Fifty fans attended and organized by the election of Wal- | ter McAdams, manager and Will Derrig, secretary-treasurer. Ed | Abramson was chosen assistant }manager and chairman of the board of trustees. Other mem- jbers of the board are C. it. | Campbell and T. E. Quinlan. Mr. McAdams was manager of last | year’s team. A. R. Wiley has installed a chop mill at his lumber yard near the depot, and now is prepared to }furnish chopped feed to the trade. Mr. Wiley expects to | tain south of town operating in ;two weeks. He has in view a big railroad tie contract, whici will keep the mill busy for some time. “Shorty” Smith, of Ferdinand, in jail on a charge of forgery, is the man of the hour in the sheriff’s office. “Shorty” Sun- day afternoon laid plan of Ar- thur Brown, alleged rapist, to flee the county jail, and the scheme of Brown to gain his lib- erty was balked. Brown had confided in Smith, and the story leaked out. Brown, several weeks ago, escaped the county jail by prying the bars apart, and was later apprehended near Stites.
