Kolkman and wife; the former at onetime proprietor of the Winona store, were injured in-an auto-accident near Lewis- ton Sunday. With his brother, F. J. Kolkman, and wife and two boys, they were: enroute from Fir Bluff to Uniontown, when the Fork truck driven by E. J: went off the grade. The glaring ‘headlights of a car which they met blinded the driver so that he could not: see his way. E. J. and wife and Mrs. W. D. were quite seriously injured, and W. D. only slightly. Frank Sims through the agency of M. L. Ayers this week sold. his ranch, of 160 acres, 7 miles north of Grangeville, to C. C. Zehner, for $90 an acre or $14.400.- Mr. sold his ranch five miles north of town to William Wortman and bought the Sims place as a home, Henry Hesterman, Grangeville soldier, who was. killed while fighting in France, on. Novem- ber 2, last, was literally blown to pieces by-a German shell,: his father, Henry Hesterman, sr., learned from comrades of his dead son, whom he visited at Camp. Lewis, Wn., recently. E. J. Bennett returned last week from issOula, Mont., where he spent a month. While Mr. Bennett was in ‘Missouls, the body of his brother, Joshua Bennett, was recovered from the Missoula river. The broth- er had ‘been missing since last’ October. It is believed he was accidentally drowned. The body was in the river almost six months and all efforts to recov- er it proved fruitless until ice in the river broke up this spring. A huge steam shovel, mount- ed on a caterpillar truck, arriv- ed in Grangeville Saturday night by rail for J. A. Hoskins *& Co. The shovel is to be used for excavation on the North and South highway and 1s the sec- ond to be brought here for the highway work, It is the lar ‘g- est steam shovel ever seen in Idaho county. It was ‘unloaded Sunday and was moved, under its own power, the first of the week, to the top of Whitebird hill.
