This has now been largely ac- complished but to maintain operation during the past few trying months has in most in- stances been a losing proposi- tion. The one great way to help maintain prosperity at this time is to proceed with construction enterprises. Six months wait has proved that prices will not be materially lower for some years to come, while many are actually advancing. Construction work is needed everywhere and if begun ‘now will make business for these great emploving industries which will enable them to main- tain their payroll. during this uncertain period, until world markets are again established and business is normal. Delay is only endangering your own bread and butter. DRY SEASON COMING BE CAREFUL! You wouldn’t flip a cigarette or cigar stub into a can of pow- der, and yet many people do just as dangerous and -footish tricks. Rubbish is allowed to accumu- late in out of the war corners in unoccupied rooms, in base- ments and against buildings. Oily rags accumulate in garages and around factory buildings, and camp fires are left burning along the roads and in the tim- ber. The dry season is coming on and carelessness such as_ this costs the people of this nation tens of millions of dollars an- nually. A cigarette stub or match carelessly thrown into a pile of rubbish or in the grass along the road may wipe out thousands of dollars worth of property or des- troy hundreds of acres if grain, not to mention lives. Be careful. COTTONWOOD FOR BETTER ; HIGHWAYS The bond election which was held in Cottonwood last Monday and which carried by such a handsome majority of 5 to 1 or 816 for and 60 against clearly shows that the citizens and tax- payers of the Cottonwood high- way district want good roads and with the money to be raised by the recent bond election all the roads in the district will be put in snvlendid shape and on good grades. The election also shows to the state officials that the people want the state highway as part of the money raised hy the bond will be used to help build roads in our distriet over which the new state highwav is to go. Taken all in all it was a snlen- did victory for the good road en- thusiasts and the vote recorded in favor of the same was much larger than the election held some time ago for a similar pur- pose and clearly shows that the neonle are wide awake and want to keep up with the times. There is one foult to be fonnd with the neace treaty. There is nothing included for simplify- ing those long hard names. As a general thing, a man’s wife doesn’t seem to care how many nersonal liberties con- gress takes away from him.
