D. 254, HENRY HEITFELD, Register. Buair E. Hoar, Receiver. The Suspenderless Hun When German soldiers are ta- ken prisoners in large numbers, as they have been during Gener- al Foch’s recent big drive and victory, the allies adopt a most effective way of rendering them ineffective as fighting men and insuring their good behavior. When the Hun comes rushing out of the dugouts or shell holes where he has taken shelter against the barrage storm he holds his hands above his head and hollers “Kamarad” at the top of his voice. His captors pause long enough to whip out a knife and cut from the prisoner’s trousers all of the but- tons and take away from him ey- erything in the nature of a belt which might ke used to hold his pants up. The prisoner is then headed towards the rear and in good American told to “beat it” while the beating is good. The Hun with both hands occupied in keeping his trousers up goes stum- bling over the uneven ground in the direction pointed out to him and from that moment is entire- ly disregarded and rendered harm- ess. There is something so humor- ous about this treatment that the American boys nearly split their sides laughing. However fero- cious arid dangerous a Hun may be, robbing him of his pants but- tons and suspenders seems to make him as tame and _ harmless as a rabbit. AOE TOE Worse Than Reported.
