Besides being a rattling good painter, paperhanger and calci- miner, Will Kelsey has just “broke out” with poetry—which he figures is even worse than mumps. Here is Will’s latest po- etic spasm: Uncle Sam went up the hill to get Kaiser Bill. Uncle Sam went over the top and he made the Kaiser drop. Uncle Sam left U. S.A. and went to France where he had a chance to show the world that our boys of pearl are in the world to do their bit and get the Kaiser by the neck. Our boys in France are in the trench fighting for U.S.A. This has always been a free country, so if made of the best material go over the sea so you can see that every brave American will stand and fight for their great land to make us free— the home of Liberty. Fat Perishable Foods. The U.S. Food Administration strongly urges the greatest pos- sible use of home grown perish- able food products, such as garden truck and fruits, as soon as they are available. The use-of these short-lived foods will liberate the more concentrated and_ staple ones for the allies and soldiers. It is not patriotic to use canned goods if fresh products can be had. Immense stocks of canned goods must be reserved for our boys and comrades in arms, and every home may have an opportunity to help create this reserve stock if they will use the fresh products instead of the canned, even if a little more work in their preparation is required, and by putting up all canned goods they need for them- selves.
