Cottonwood Public School News {Contributed} Report cards are being made out this week and will be given to the students Friday. Since school has opened up again about two-thirds of the pu- pils and students have returned. Caroline Terhaar is completing her work in examination for a Palmer Certificate and the same will be sent in soon. , Miss Carscallum has been em- played by the school board, to take the place of Mrs. DeCour- cey, resigned. Miss. Carscallum comes from the Lewiston Normal and has had work also in the Pullman (Wn.) State College. Anita DeCourcey has left school to move to Lewiston. After her sickness the condition of her eyes would not permit returning to her school work for the present. Before leaving here the high school students gave her a fare- well party Tuesday evening, in- cluding the presentation of a handsome gift. Mrs. DeCourcey and daughter will be greatly miss- ed by their many friends here. Bee ae Some Mud. Charley Buettner, who recently returned from a visit with his brother, who conducts a prune packing plant in San Jose, Cal., last week bought one of the Yuba tractors from the Hoene Hardware and took it out to his farm near Keuterville, Some idea of the muddy roads between here and Keuterville may be gathered from the following joke they tell on Charley. While on the way home with his new tractor, several of his neighbors} noticed Charley moving along through mud almost up to his, ears, and remarked that he (Char-! ley) “was in a pretty bad mess,” and wondered why he didn’t get out and walk at the side of the road. His answer was: “Don’t worry about me! My good new Yuba tractor is still under me!” Notice to Stockholders A special stockholders meeting of the Farmers Union Warehouse Co. is called for Saturday, March 16th, to further distuss the proposition of erecting a new elevator. If their field hospitals are supplied with the needed equipment many a life will be saved that would otherwise be lost. Therefore it behooves all of us to patronize the Red Cross benefit entertainments. On the 28rd and 24th of March the Venetian Troubadours, a high- class Italian musical company, will give two entertainments at the Orpheum Theatre, the pro- ceeds to go to the Cottonwood branch of the Red Cross. On Saturday night, 23rd, a dance will follow the entertainment, music furnish- ed by the Troubadours, : The next Red Cross card party will be held in Odd Fellows hall a week from Tuesday night—26th.
