Parker has received a telegram} from Governor Alexander, urg- ing him to come to Boise to at- tend a meeting of the State Coun- cil of Defense on Monday, Oct. 29th, as there are some important state matters to consider. Mr. Parker informs us that he will be present. W. H. Spencer, one of the suc- cessful young farmers of the) enn country, was in town Wednesday and remembered this office in a substantial way by pay- ing three yearly subscriptions— one for himself, one to his broth- | er J. B. Spencer at Lodi, Cal., | and the other to his sister, Mrs. J. B. Turner at Murphys, Cal. The Cottonwood band gave its regular Saturday night street concert, which was appreciated bya large crowd. After the con- cert the boys were treated to ice rate the boys are willing to play all winter in snow up to their necks if this treatment continues H. Busse, a very energetic gen- tleman who recently sold his drug store at Kendrick, spent several days in town this week. He is looking for a new location store or open a new one. Mr. .-| Busse believes that Cottonwood is the best business town, for its >| size, in the Northwest, and may conclude to go into business here. Mr. James McKinley, wife and \daughter arrived here Friday evening from their home at Rock Rapids, Iowa, for a visit with his brother, David A. McKinley, their first meeting since the latter left the old home of their childhood 84 years ago. They may con- clude to buy property and locate here. They will also visit at the home of his sister, Mrs. O. M. Collins, at Clarkston. Sam Goldstone, the well known retired merchant and capitalist of Lewiston, was here Monday and Tuesday conferring with his partners—Nash and Creelman— on business connected with their store in this city.
