The DifMiculty Arlsing from tho Unitmited Tickets Still Out. ‘Wostern Roads Doclino to Pro-Rate on Out Emigrant Ratoa, WESTERN PASSENGER MUDDLE, ‘Tha General Managers and General Poas- senger Agents of the varlous roads between Chleago, St. Louls, and Missouri River boluts will meet in this city to-duy for the burpose of taking Into conslieration the dis turbed condltion of the Western passenger business, The war botween the Wabash, Alton, und othar Western lines was brought toancnda week or two ago by the an- nouncement of the Wabnsh that It would no longer insist upon o differentinl rate on pas. senger business from this city to the West, and consequently the rates to St. Louls and Kansas City, which had dropped down o uominal figures, were restored to S4.50 to St. Louls and $8.50 to Kansas Clty. Theso rates wero adopted on tha recommendation of tho Wabash, and wero higher than the Alton and other Chiengo roads thought should be made, but they nceepted thein rather than have the war continue any longer. It has since been demonstrated that the Wabnsh got the best of the new arrange. ment, ns the rates established enabled some of tho speculators wio had bought unlimited tickets during the hent of the fight o placs them on the market and sell them below the rates charged by the vonds. Especially was this tho easoin regard to Kansas City tickels, to which polnt tho Wabasls, 1t Is sald, has out an immense amount of untimited tickets wihich wers Sold ns low as %5, [n conse- quence the business of the Wabash has luggely Incrensed sinca the regstablishment of pedce, and that of the other lines has cor respondingly fallen ofl. Ior this reason the roads at this polnt are greatly dissatified with uxenm\nfemenhnmldumnn thatsoine netion bo taken fo get the untimited tickets, which tenil to demoralize the business, out of the way, and establish such' rates ns will place all the lines on un equal footing. Ata wmoet- ing lield at St. Louls two or three_ weeks ago General Manager Carson, of the Haunibal & 5. Joe, was instructed to procurestatements from the various lines showing how many unlimited tickets had beeu placed on the market and at what rates, Mr, Carson lins heen busily engaged ever siiee in collecting such statements, and he will Iny them beforg the meeting to-day, ‘These statements will fill\-n the managers o better basls for work k an they have had heretolore, as they will nosy how many unlthmited tickets are ont, 1t will be no casy task, however, to find a plan by which those tickels can be re- deomed, as' Inrge amounts have beon sold to parties who will not have them redeend, but who will hold on to them with the ex- veetation of miking & large profitat a Iater perlod, when they expect that former rates Wil e restored. The Chieago Ilnes, 1t Is clalined, have placed thelr tickets [n sueh n manner that they can eaaily got_them bac! but the Wabash, It is undetstood, hns tak no such precautions, and cannot get its ©ta back excopt at a great sacrifice. It s derstood that at the medtlng to-dny the Chl- eago ronds Will ask that the unlimited tickots shall be redeemed, or such precautions taken ns will not bring them Into competl- tion with the regular rates, and it isalso un- derstood that the Wabash wil re- fuse to sccept sueh o propositlon, but will propose that the = business shall 8 pooled and. that the outstanding tickets be made good vver auy of the roads. As the other rouds are opposed 1o apooling arrangement at present, It does not look s if tha meetlng will be very harmonlous. Shoul] the Wnbash bo content with smaller percentages thau it has demanded heroto- ote, especlally on the St. Touls business, & ooling urrangement might be agreed upon ut the indleations are that the Wabash wil stiil nsk n4 Iarge apercentnge as It demanded ot the New York nioeting some months ag », The sltuatlon is a precarious one, and ahowier War o Dussonger rates s bighly imminent, 2 EMIGRANT BUSINESS, It has hierototore been announced that the General Passenger Agents of the Western ronds have given notice to thaEastern trunk lines, now engaged In n serlous war on eml- grant rates from New York, that they witl not accept any prorata of cut rates on busle ness from those lines, but will® demand futl proportion on all tickety'sold over thelr re- speetive lines, ‘The Passonger Agents of the Western ropds held n mecting yesterday atb the oflice of the Western Rallway Welghing Association, for the purpose of making bas- Ing; rates for such emigrant bustuess, with reference to producing uniformity between through and local business, so far as practl- cabla, through and from the differont gate-: wuys specllied fn the Weslorn passeger agreement.
