Ile was, however, little worse than Wililamson, who caught like a man sick or disabled,—or rather worse than that, foreven o sick man might play near the plate when a chance wns offered to put Aman out thers, which Wiilinnison did not always do, With the continued disability of Flint, Kelly, and Goldsinith, it became neces- sary to present a crippled team, though no werkness was noticeable except In tho two points named. It may well bo doubted whether Beals should bo pers mitted to play second base again, Poorman could do no worse; any amateur who could be picked at random would be likely to do better both in fielding and bat- ting. Worcester would have made two or three less runs yesterday if second base had been left vacant altogether, as what time Rents didn’t muff grounders he threw wild and advanced men to bases they would not otherwise have reached. The ren-getting began In tho second Inning, when Anson, Corcoran, Burns, and Quest hit safely in sticeession,—Corcoran for two bases, but Beals, by striking out, gave an opening for adouble play, and Poormen rettred at first, ‘Tho result was two rans, both earned. In the fifth Beals bezan by striking out, Poor- inan earned his base and made second on Creamer's mull of a good throw, and on Stoves’s poor throw across tho diamond to third and \Voud’s fumble of the ball when it got over to btn In left field, Poorman tallied. In the elghth Poorman — scored again, this time getting a Ife by Irwin’s fumble, reaching second on Gore’s out, antl home on Willian son's single and Wood’s poor throw-l1 ‘Worcester earned arin inthe second innly on a two-baser by Whitney and two succeed- hus outs at first. In the third Bushong went to frst on-n missed third strike and bad throw by Williamson, aud to second on a. passed Dall, but was there doubled on a fine. fly entch by Gore olf Stovey’s bat. A wild {row and a muffed grounder by Bens, atded by a sate hit by Bushong, gave Worcester au unearned run in the fifth, and In tho sixth a repetition of this wretched performance by Beals and mutfed thrown hall, passed ball, nl inissed third strike by Williamson, with a slow throw by Anson and a good slide by Dickerson, gave the visitors two runs with- ont so much is a baseebilte Chicago having fed the game fn tho first half of the elghtir inning, Worcester made a rally at the but, and from hits by Stovey, Irwin, Dickerson, and Knight, 2 base on balls, aid a passed ball, hres runs were scored, to ‘of thom earned. Although flelding errors were numerous on Worcester’s alle they were not in tho main costly, aud the bise-rinning of tho visitors was daring and lucky, ‘Choy won the game by good hitting and clever work with their ‘legs, and deserved the victory, The me was not without some brilliant plays on both sides, though tt may be sald hat Quest's short-fleld play was the feature, He throw Creamer out nt first on n iit, that would be scored a base-hit nineteen tes vutof twenty, and twice by Hehtning pleks nul throws gave ehanees for double plays, which Beats missed by bad throwhng.
