Munieipal Elections Held in Va- rious Parts of the Coun- try Yesterday. The Judicial Etection in Wisconsin an Overwhe'ming Democratic Deteat. THE RESULT. A DEMOCRATIC VICTORY, The election yesterday passed off quietly enough,—In fact, altogether too quictly so far as the Republicans were concerned,—and re- sulted in the success of the entire’ Democrutle ticket, thus pincing, the City Government onte more under the goutrol of that party. The majorities of the sttccessful candidates do not vary materially, Larrison, for Mayor, and Seipp, for Trensurer, rtivnitys somewhat ahead of the balance of the ticket. and all raoning soine 4,000 votes ahead of their Republican competitors. ‘This result was brought about by several rea- song, the most important of which were ‘the apathy manifested by the Republicans, and the heavy Suctalistle vate cast: by the Germans, who haye berotolore trained with the Mepublican party. In the Irish wards the Democratic teket catned largely, and these gains were not valanced by corresponding ones fu the strong Republican wards, the metbers of the party, as above stated, not manifesting sufllelent Interest in the reault to bring ont the vote, which is in- yarlably cust for the Republican ticket at State and natlonal clectious. In the matter of town elections the Republic- ans were victorious on ‘the Suuth Side, but on the North and West Sides the Democratic tiek- etseamo out uhead, ‘There was yo fault to be found with the weather, the day betng a falrty pleasant one, but the causes before alluded to gave the Democrats a trlumph which they did not expect, aud to-day they are correspondingly 4 Probable gains in certain localities, jublinnt. ‘The ticket clécted {3 as follows? Nowhere was there any serious trouble. At the opening of the polls an army of ticket- peddiera were on hand representing the various partivs, but in most instances Wu: Sucialists: predominated, ‘There was the utitost guad- feeling among them, but at the same time the ereatcet rivalry m thelr work, Tt was not until about the middlo of the forenvon, however, that. they hud much to do, for it was then that, the Repdblican upprehensions of a small vote being cast commenced to be dispelled by the apprarauee of Demucratie wagons upon the Stieets Inbeled, © Vote for Selpp."” Saou there- after tt became apparent that the vote would be too Jnrge, for the wagons were speedity loaded with the gang the Republicans bad teared, who were driven from. prechict to precinct, and ward to ward, aml voted 93) olten as. they pleased and where they pleased, te Hepublean challengers being powerless to prevent them or withstand the temptations, and the police re- fusing te make any arrests, ‘This was notably the ease Inthe Seventh, Ninth, wud Fourteenth Wards, where the returns show that the Deme- erate polled in some preciycts a larger yotethan had ever before been pollad by all parttes coin- bined. ‘Ticy also bad a hand of music on the street, which closely followed the waguns, tod. whieh served ta cover up the work of the repeaters by detracting atrention from the pulls while the fraudulent voting was volng on. ALL thly had the effect to dis- hearten the Republicans, amd, alsneartened, they did nat work with the energy they otherwise wold, amt beside ft was avid that thes ad trailors in their sanks sn certain wards, just ag they had on thelr committees tn laving out the canipanze work, whieh was sepeatediy remarked on the eye of the battle. Furlner than cis, it Was apparent that Republicans were NOT DOING THEM ENTINE DUTY 4n thelr strongholds by staying at home or at their business, bo after all tie result of tie day's work ia only astonlehing fn the small imujornty obtaived by the ritl-raif, AT HEADQUARTERS, THE DEMOCIATS. REPUNLICANS, Tt was tn the evening when the returns bewan to come fn, that the real situation first dawned ucon the Hepublicans, ‘They made the Grand Pocitic thelr headnunters, aud at on carly hour ftanding-room in the halls was at a premium, Eversbody had met there to hear the returns read, and Mr. Drake officiated as render. ‘The frst announcemants were received with cheers, and for awhile everything acemed to point in the direction of a Repubiicun triumph. Mr. Wrieht had private rooms, and was sur: rounded bya few friends, and the returns were taken to him att also read, and he, too, felt encouraged. For awhile hetting was going on liberally, and the Republicans were giving odds until ‘tho scattering returns showed unprecedented, unreasonable, and im- ‘Then it was that the Republicans bean to weaken, hotwithetanding Mr. Wright was over 1,000 svat, with some ot the Republican straughulds to hear from.
