MACK AND DICKERSON. &pectal Dispateh to The Tribune. JanesviLLe, Wis, Dee. 18,—In the Mack murder trial to-day the cross-examination of Joseph Wataic was_continued. The only thing of importance developed was that ho found the paper, sehich was araund the bottleof laudanum which be bought for Dickerson, In Dickerson's coat-pocket. o sald Dickerson, having teatf- fied at Beloft that he did uot have the lsudanum on his return home, he went to Dickerson's coat, Which hung In the barn, to look for the bottle, and fouud the weapping-paper, It was the samec cont Dickerson wore at Beloit, #Eugene Cannou saw mo take it out and put it back." William Taylor testifled that he was ot Mack’s house on the Bunday of the fnquest. ** [ reached the house about 9:80 o'clock; examined the ground between the house and barn, but saw nothing untit I reached the hog-wallow, where [ saw an fmprint, as though some bedy bad been impreased there. In going up-stalrs fo the housc I saw tracks on the stalrs, ns though made by some one who did not have any beots on. The tracks were as though they had been mud, but were dry when 1 saw them, There were tracks on four or five stops and @ track on the louding, Theso tracks led to Dickerson’s room, and one wns inside tho door. The tracks were round, 28 though made by o man’s heel. The track in the room was the same as those on the stafrs. Eugeno Cannon was with me, and we remarked on the tracks. Iexamined the wamuas worn by Mack to sce if thero was any mud on 1t gorresponding to that in the watlow. 8aw on the wamus the same kind of mud ss was in the wallow, and the same kind of mud was on Mack's oter clothes. Am famillar with horsca. Do not think a horse could made to back wupon the body of a man. Tho horse would not do such a thing. I saw Dickerson that day. I observed him par- ticularly, ¥o sccmed very nervous and excit- cd, and anxlous to hear all that was sald. The tracks on the stairs were made by the right and left foot alternntely." Eugene D, Cannon testifled: “1wasat Mack’s house the morning after the murder; traced the mud-tracks to Dickerson's roomj they ap- peared to be made by baro feet. Tho last day of June before the murder I patd Mack money. I pald him o 850 bill and an $80 check. In May, while Mack, Dickerson, and I were talking fn tho barn, I assked Mack it he was gotng to have money enough to pay his interest, and that ho ought to bo getting it togother.. . The deepest track was about two 1nches acep, and appsreutly made by a stocking- foot, There was another track on the edge of the wallow which, I sbould say, was made by a boot or shoe, * Dickerson saw me pay Mack acheck the last of June, E.J.
