Brsyanck, D. 7., Nov, 5.~The biggest vote aver polled in Bismarck—333—was cast to-day for city officers, electing Genrge Peoples, Demo- crat, Mayor,by 183 majorityover the Republican sod Independent candidates. The othercity Dem- ocratic eandilates were elected by small majori- tles. Only one Republican Alderman was elect- ed in the county. Tripp, Democratie candidate for Congress, will have over 300 majority, At the last election the Republican majority was 16, Robert Macrider, Republican candidate for tne Territorial Benate, {a elected. NEVADA. BCRATCRING. Bax FRaxcisco, Cal, Nov. 5.~—Dlspatches from Virginia say the Democratic Legisistire ticket Is abead in the State. Thers was much scratchiog, Tho Democrats charge the exten- lve use of money on the part of Republicans. ———— LOUISIANA. NO nOW. Hpectal Ditpateh o The Tritune. New OnieaNs, Nov. L.—The clection, very unexpectedly, passed off exceedingly quiet. Kverybody seemed peaceably disposed, and upon bis good-behavior. There were very few arrests, and those for trivial offenses. The city re- porters found bat few items of even locat inter- est. Both the Natlonal and Citizens’ ticket early doveloped an unlooked-for strength. The colored voters seemned fairly divided between the tivo, with, perhaps, the preponderance With the Citizcos’, Colored leaders wera secn at every poll zealously distributing tickets for each There were five tickets {n all_appealing for subport,— Democratte, Citizens!, Conservative, National Workingmen's, and Citizens® snd Taxpayera'. The contest, howover, early nsrrowed to the Democratic Citizens’, Cynlcrnllu, and Na- tionals. As all opposition tickets, and more particolarly the two leading ones, drew lsrzely from the straight Democratlc, the Iatter has had an unlooked-for struggle for supremacy. The wesk polnt with cach of the two, bowever, las been the want of organization, in which neitber could compare with the Democrats. Very much of the results will depend undoubtedly upon thls fact. TNE ECRATCHIND OF TICKETS ‘has exceeded anything ever before known in New Orleans. By far the greater portlon of tickets polled are badly scratched. People made up their tickets at home, choosing their men from either ticket, regardless of polifyes, sod presented them thus, seemingly by thousands. Thecolored voters did their shareof scratehing with therest. Results arc asyet wholly unobtainable. Overzeslous Citizens” leaders, untll within the last hour, have been clalmiug success. They now assume that extensive frauds will be prosecuted in the count. Tnere are unquestionably some thousands of bogus reglstration papers that may be madoto yet play an alldmportant part. The straight Democratic ticket, however, would seem, with perhaps some few unimportant exceptions, A8 PAIRLY ELXCTED, though the sctual count cannot be expected from more than twoor three wards during the oleht. News from the Stato at large is alto- gether too meagre for any. basis of calculation, Burke, ‘freasurer, is unquestionably elected, baviog practically no opposition. There is some possibilty of the election of IHerbert, Natlonal, for Congress over Acklen, but the chances are decidedly fo Acklen’s favor. The Democrats seem rcasonably sure of the entire Conpreselonsl delugation, as also of probably three-fourths of the General Assembly. DURKR'S ELECTION. To the TVestern Associated Press. GUSSIP AND SCANDAL. A Natch from Olive Loga: Oorrespundence Cineinnati Enguis Lonnow, Oct. 19.—~Buch a lot of gossip and scandal ahout prominent persons is going on now that were T to try to repeat one-tenth of it T should require a newspaper all tomgsell. Two rumors in particular are very sad. And one, at least, T fear, is but too well founded. The match of Hannah de Rotbachild and Lord Rosebery I8 reported not to have turned out as well as was expected, and gomething very like a separation 18 in contemolation. I am less inclined to place eredence in this report because both these young persons have nn army of enemics,—people whose interest {t was to oppose the mateh, —and as long as these latter lhive they will never keep thelr toogues off the young Earl and his Jewish Countess, A good deal of the venom svread sbout them cumes from American sourcef. There Le those on vour side who could murder Archibald Prim- rose, Earl of Rosebery, incold blood for his haviog broken off his plighted troth with But- ier Duncan's daughter. It {scurrently reported here that the firm of Duncan, S8herman & Co. would have failed long and long hefore it did had not the intention been to ses through this wrest inarrlage for the daughter of the senlur partner, [lostalittic trifie by the failure of the bank mysel!, but I am not su embittered by that circumstance a8 to cast nvectives on the house; yet rerlulnl{ 1 must confess that it looked very bad, in the midst of the crash, with the ruin and misery it entalled on thoussuds, to seu a portion of the Duncan family golug on composedly with their splendid erections at Newport, \whers they have passed their sum- i“t" ever since, In the enjoyment of princely uxury. The other rumor to which I aliuded is rela- tive to the celebrated Mra, Langtry, tha Maud Branscombe of society. All the “raving uver hier beauty bas naturally quite turned her head, ond has Jed 1o most serious domestic troubles in vonsequence: at least 50 on dit, It appears the lady’s father had a habit of slluding to the sensation bis dsughter's beauty has created as “the greatest misfortune of Lis llve,” and cer- talnly the husband takes the same view, L: week the gossip was all to the effect that, be- fure tlie year was out, the couple would both be employing divoree lawyers; but I believe words of wisdom have dmu,ml from high rlnn, and “Kiss and make up’’ has been the Itoyal com- mand, upon which scosible advice I hope they baye acted. * The -utgen of gossp I shall mention is the ‘Empress Eugenlfe, whose zeal for the marriage of her son to thie slater of the Princess of Wales has somewhat rup away with her discre- tlon. It appears L {s ‘only & matter of money that stands in the way now; the King of Den- mark has glven his consent, ** Wales™ approves of it, the Princess ‘Thyra.is In lave with the comely youvg Frenchman, snd ** Napoleon IV.," like Barkis, 1s wilfiny, although the Prin: cess is not only older, but ever a0 much taller than he, The King of.
