THE METIIODISTS; The Methodist mimsters held their regular weekly meeting yesterday morning at No. 57 Washington street, Presiding-Elder Williog in the chalr. Dr. Willing sunounced that the time hiad come for the annual clection of oflicers, and, n pursuance of o motion which prevailed, apnufuted Messrs. Edwards, Boring, and Calvin a Cummittee on Nominations, While the Com- mittee was out, the Rev. M, M. Parklurst, the Rev. John Williamson, the Rev. Mr. Youker, the Rev. D. H. McChesney, aud others told how they were pleased with tha new appolntments, and spoke hopefully of the condition of the work in the cburches under thelr charze. 1ho Commttee, through Dr. Edwanls, reported the following namea: Lusincss Cominitiee, M. M. Parkhurst, T. C. Clendenning, Witliam Craven; Becretary, J. P, Marab; Vice-Presidents, John Willlamsun, €. A. Loeber. In regard to the nomination of a President, Dr. Edwards added that they had all been laboring for years to have this meetiug known as the Northwest- ern Preachers’ mnceting, and not simply a Chica- o District mecting. What they wanted was s meeting to which all the brothren in the North- west conld feel that they were thorvughly and alwaya welcome, And yet ti vl:{ had uniformly placed at the head of this mecting the Preafding Elder of the Chicago District, tbus tending to give the Impression that it was distiuctively a Chicago District meetiog, which was not the casc. In viow of this sentiment, in which the Committee was unnnlinous, it had been decided not to mske any nomination for the office. ‘o _only possible diasent was the fear that Presiding Etder Willing might think this course somewhat Invidious. It was declded, liowever, that, in makiug such a roport, it should be made slinply aud solely with the ob- ject in view of haviog tho mecllog known as the Northwestern Preacliers’ alecting. ‘Ihe report was adopted so far ns any nomina- tlons were made. Otherwise, Lo thought they should choose another. Dr, Willing was not formally nomlinated, but the tirst ballut taken resulted in his receiving 1t votes, and Dr. Hattiold's recelving the satmo uuinber, Dr. Willlag vacated the chalr, to which he called Dr. Edwards. and proceeded 1o nominate the latter goutlenian, who positively decliued. ‘The sacond ballot rosulied as follows: Hat- fleld, 182 \\'nunt: 17: Edwards, 1. A motlon ot Elder Boring to hiero- alter excludg reporters ang keep the proceed- ngs scerct was brousht forth only to be tem- vorarily sat down upon by the aduption of a wmotlon to adjourn.
