Mexrms, Tenn., Oct. 19.—It 15 itipossible to describe the indications of joy and happiness and the genersl rejoicing on every nand this moruing ‘st the sight of the first frost which appeared in such quantities as to be unmistakable. Everybody was gld, but the countenances of those who had escaped the fever thus far, and they are very few, actuaily beamed with délight. It was ex- pected, as last night was very cold, and hun- dreds sat up all night to usher in the zreat fe- brile enemy. ‘There were hundreds of others who have not witvessed a sunrise for years who were up with the lark this orning, and.discov- ering the hoary covering of things carthly, went out and with the SCRAPED UP* QI cach one of which passed current for drinks at the neighboring bar-room. Only one-seventh of our population is left, and nearly one-fifth- of that number bave been and coutinue under treat- ment, and the scourge Is increasing.
