One wheel of the carriage struck the door o passing out, by which Breanuu was thrown from his seat, and thecarriage could not Lo stopped in time to prevent the accident. EAST Savrxaw, Mich., Oct. 13.—Your corre- spoudent visited the farm of Jobo Conquest yesterday in the Township of Vienna, Gienescs County, the scene of one of the most bloody and mysterious tragedies which ever occurred in the State. Conquest wasa well-todo farm- er, honeat, industrious, snd highly-esteemed, having lived {n that community nearly s quar- ter of mcentury. Hix yeara ago Conquest mar- ried & woman named Beott, her maiden name being Mary E. Barclay, but sho had married ons Chandler Scott, a laborer, who had left her screral yeira ago, and gone West. Fie was known to bave been In Chicago at the Great Fire, and wond came back that he was burned to death at that time. After waiting & reasno- able time, Mra. Scott married ~John Conquest, The house, though on the main Foad, was Isointed, with roads north aud east. The house was au unpretending frame: structare, 16 by 20, with only onu eutrance, and divided fnoto threa apartments,—a wain room,bed-rvom,and pantry. A quantlts of vats and wheat wero stored in the chamber. Thursday morning the house was discovered burncd, aud the bodles of Conquest, the wite, and a child were tound In the ruins. But for the grain which fell from the chamber and covered the bodies from the fire all traces of the critne would have been destroyed. The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Conquest wers found lying upon their faces, side by slile on the flovr,and in an onposite dircction from whera the head of the bed had stond. The right hand af Mra.
