The Committee first revicwed the work of the Sub-Commlttees, of which thero are twenty- elght solfciting subsceiptions among the varfous branches of trade. 1t was found that all these Commlttees are hatd at work and turning to contributions, except the brewers and maltaters, the bardware and Iron dealers, and the real- estate dealers and capitafists. It was stated that correspondence had been entered into with the contributing nuthoritles in other cities, and with various afllicted points in the South, inorder that isformation mnight bo reccived from tne former as to the points belng rendercd assistance, and from the latter a8 to thelr needs; thus the Committee expects to be able to act Intelligently and with system, uot. folringingz upon the work of other cities, and leaving some points unnided. Informatfon of this kind s hourly expected, and the Com- mittes s diacreetly holding on 1o its funds, only about $2,000 of the whoie amount collected by these committees having been forwarded, and that went to New Orleans.
