NEW YORK. A NOTAELE WEDDING. Special Carrespandence of The Tritune. NEw YoRrE, Scpt. 19.—For several weeks Iadies of fashion and thetr respective modistes have been in a state of delizhutul excitement caused by preparations for a wedding which was to be remarkable cvenin thisyear of elegant wed- dings. Yestcrday the bridal of Miss Belmont, daughter of the New York millionaire, was the occasion of a display which, in point of elegance and beauty, surpassed any affair of the kind which bas occurred for a long tume. The toil- eites were waguificent, many being imported drusses ordered for the occasion, snd those of home 1nanujacture being not less elegant. The bride’s costume was very beautiful,—of beavy corded-silk trimmed with tulle and with superb pomt-lace tlonuces. But all bridal toilettes have pretty much a look of samencss, o, satlice it to say, thal the dress was a marvel of richuess and beauty, and the ;bnide a fitting bearer of the splendor. Among the other dresses most noticeable was one of white satin. A Princesse robe of this had an inserted front and back of ruby velvet. ‘The latter was 50 arrauged as to form an im- mese box-pleated train. Across the back of the velvet portion was a deep flounce of pofat d'Alencon,~very haodsome. The froot was wnmmed by narrower lace flounces, alternated by Iruges of lilies of the vailey. The square neck was ornamented with lace aud flowers. Auother beautiful toiletto was of rich black poult de soie. This also was a Princess, and had'm front, taken cut of the skirt, 2 pyramidal- shaped piece which left an opening [rom the waist down. Through this showed a petticout of black satin, thickly strewn with clair-de-lune beads. The remaining portrons of the poult de svie ski or the dress proper, were trimmed Wwith alternate pleatings of satin and flounces of lace, the latter thickly embroidered with beads. Garni- Tures of nich crimson roses relivye any sombre- ness, which jvdeed is prevented by the bnll- iancy of the beads. A beautiful dress was of navy-blue silk, the long, trained skirt being ornamented Ly three phisses, which were lined with pale blue satin. The square-nccked cur- gage was of nayy blue, and with clbow- sleeves. Lomgr puints i front and back were trimmed with white cheniile fringe and pulls of it blue mauze. The overdress was of this gauze, aud fell 1 a deep pomt on the Ieft, and on the right side was caught up under a bow of white and blue satin Tiobon. The overdress was bordered by pufls of navy-blie silk and finished at the edigc by a Leavy white chenille fringe. This toilette, an importation 1need scarcely tell you, atvracted much atten- tion, particularly as its wearer 15 oue of the handsomest ladies of New York. A very lovely toilette worn by a charming young il was a Princess of whitc<orded silk, trimmed at the bottom by severad very narrow side-pleatings. The corsage. low su the neck and wuittless of sleeves, is richly trimmed with parrow frills of white point applique. Fastened on cach shoulder are searfs of ruse-tinted silk gauze, which are looped togother in thie bck and cross the front diagonally. llere the lower cdyze of cach is finished oy a ifill of Jace Leaded by agarland of avple-blussoms, delieate pink and white. The greater number of ladivs at this gorpeous .wedding were, of course, “en grande toilctte,” but there were several hand- some reception dresses worn with bonnets which merit mention. Une of pale fawn-colored silk was richly trimmed with brown velvet, and embroidered " with bronze beads. Theunder- skirt and vest were of silk, the oveniress and coat-sbaped basque of velvet. A deep frnee of chenille, silk, and bronze beads borucred the overdress, and was surmounted by a feather band of pale blue tips. The bon- net ol brown silk bad the crown encircled by Telds of pale-blue satio and broaze kid, and de¢- orated by plumes of pale blue mingled with milded quills, The cflect was besutiful. An- otber exquisite toilette was of garnet velvet, mingled with a brocade of fiesh-color and silver. Tte underskirt was of a third shade of silk, sud the tout ¢usemble beautiful. She bounet of black lace was surrouncd by a wreath of silver Jeares and clusters of pink flowers mingled with deep-tinted feathers. This dress, which was all planned by its (air wearer and made at home under her own supervision, was one of the most beautifal displayed on this interesting octssion, and won many comments of admira- tion, TOE TROUSSEAT of the fair young bride detics description. Mach of it casie from abroad, and ali of it i3 rich, elegant, und tasteful. One of the most attractive features of this outfit isthe number of pretty and handsome morning costumes in- cluded init. One exceedingly lovely is of finest camel’s hair, made en Princesse, with a larze Wattesu pleat at the back and elaborately tnmmed with Valendennes iace and wide white satin nbbon. This is a very attractive dress and beautifully made. Anotber is of brown silk in two ehades, and is tnmmed with deep flounces which are richly embroidered by hand, 2, at Bonaparte, Ia., where Miss. Further ornamentation is secured by & haud- some ball fringe of both colars, anjl ity u wide, massive heading. Al the details of this Forgeous trousseau would fill a volume, and ‘Would undoubtedly incite the female heart to direst envy. So we will pass to other things and see what there is for the average lady Whose papa is not a millionsire and who docs not expect wedding presents (when the time comes) from the Baroness Rothschild, e1c. The dresses displased at _the openings are particu- Jarly pleasing, and show that, the zood taste of last geason will prevail again during this. One handsome dress bas the skirt of marjoiaine or dark green silk trimmed with a side-pleating cigliinches deep. Above this is a box-oleating EiX inches wide, which is sewed on through the centre, forming a pretty finish. The overdress isa polonaise of dark green bourette havine upon the surface h’mmf threags of vellow and crimson, or properly scarlet. e polonaise is slightly pointed in front, formed h;;'cbnfing up- raised at the .sides. The back falls in three overlapping points, the longest ray car No. 39, on_ State-st. tarniabie. near Lake - on Sunday morning, Sept., will greatly oblige by se foi2 bis address 10 F) H . Tremont Houte. ted fringe of marjolaine sewing silk, mixed with very small red aud yellow tassels. Back and front is a plastrou of silk on the waist of the polonaise. This is not inserted as is usual, but is sewed on the ontside, * applique,’ one might call jt. It is finished with a heavy cord on its edge, and at the back reaches some eight or ten Inclics lielow the belt line, where it ends undera laree bow of green silk, scarlet-lined. In front it deseribes the customary veat shape. ANOTHEL ILEASING COSTUME is of “pourpre” silk anmd cashmere. This ‘*pourpre,” you must bear in mind, is_nothing more nor less than a decp, rich red. The skirt, which fs of silk, lhas a decp gath cred flounce, ~ which s finished n the bottom by a -sort of shell- pleatini. A similar arrangement fortus a suit- akle heading to the flounce. The polonaise is of a shape known s the Breton, which, by the Wway, is sometning very atylish and novel. 1t is, in tbis case, of “pourpre? cashmere. From throat to bottom of the garment ruos along insurted picce slightly narrowed-at toc belt and of silk. Across this fropt are picces of fringe placed at - distances _of their own ' width apart trom cach oter. The sides of the polonsise are-apparently buttoned on this front picee ny handsome white buttons arranged in clusters of three. ‘The sides are also lald in four up- turncd foldi. The back bas reaching. to the Lips an insertion of, gilk, and.across the bottom o[’v.lus, extending on cach sido of 1t to the uuder arm seums, runs 4 row of frnge waich gives the appearsnce of a basque to the tack. The drapery is.- gracefully dispnsed and the back of the polopaise is cut in two decp, cll-shaped points.. A row of fringe fimshes arment. For cvervday costumes, bourettes, cash- meres, busket cloths, and (he wany varietics of checked, striped, tigured, and mottled woolens are selected. . A favorite metbod ot making up these goods 18 with A BLOUSE WAIST, which may be worn With a skirt Aad overdress,a Talu skirt, or a skirt so trimmed 8s_to sumulate an overdress. This style of waist shows to great advautaze on youn ladies of tall stature and slender figure.” It i3 not, however, unbe- coming to a demoiselle slizhtly inclined to be robust; but she could find other styles better adupted. Basques arc now. verv popular, and, though the general form of the cuirass has been retained, it is hardly to be recognized umler the claboration” of trim- miug which is now considered appropriate. The skirts of the busque are suseeptible of much oramentation, aud some are made very dressy and handsome by the exercise of a little ingenu- ity. Sometimes these skirts are cut in square ie-pleating is placed nnderneath. , one of these square points is removed at regular spaces, and a side or box-plesting is in- serted in its place. Vests are much used with Dagques and some very preity desizus are shown. Sometimes the vest 1s only simulated by the ar- rangement of the trimminir; oftenest it is of an- other material, and is inserted; sometimes, and this is one of the novel methods, it is sewed in at the under-arm and shoulder-seams, aund isthe whole frout of a vest, and not representing it- self under false pretenses. There is a tendency 10 lensthen basques, especially thuse for elder- 1y Jadies. This is well, for many wmatrons inclinie 8o to cmboupoint that anything adding L height is to be mmed at and secured if possi- Dle. THE NEW MATERTALS are so heavy, and in many cuses 50 costly, that there seems & preference for drapery arranged upou the skirt 1 place ol a separate overdress. Hence diagonal tronts are much esteemed, and gearfs, folds, snd arrangements of that sort are consudered most desirable. The back is often ouly a broad sash gracefully disposed, or 1s sometimes lad in side-pleats. “fhis is a novel and styhsh design, and meets with much ap- provai.. Occasionally two or three horizontal bands are buttoned across from side to side over these pleats, but often_they hang loose, 1astened into place hy stitenes on the under side. A new and popular arrangemcnt of the back of the overdress is to have thesc pleats laid dizzonally. This form of the hack is usu- ally unied toa round apron or shawl-shaped 1ront, which s trimmed perpendicularly. 1L s a pleasing onovation, and wul undoubtedly soon be *‘ali the ruge.”? MATHE 8. Speeiat Correspondence of The Tribune. Tants, Sept. S.—Altbough the beautiful Bols de Boulogne is exchacging Summer’s bloom for Fashion's dazzling hues, aud anstocratic prom- enades arc sradually assuming their brlliant appearauce usual at this scason of the year, there arg yet but Tew changes o note in styles. Tlere and there a charming walking-suit of new design attracts attention, or, perchiance, a novel carnage-toilette arrests the cye; but in general there is but little variatiun from the fashions last described. Strongly contrasting colors are eometimes scen, and quite charming they secmed to me among the birds and flowers of the Avenne of the Acacias; but they will surely weary the sight if accepted generally by prom- cnaders on the boulevards. Other toilettes of cquully Drilliant colors, with all their tints re- ecting beauty on cach otlier by artistic blend- ing, will probably remain ia favor throughout the season; or ut least their duration will ex- tend 1ar beyond that of striking contraste. A liandsome carriage-costume 15 of olive armure &ilk, flecked with bronze and crimsor, amd trimmed with satin cording of the ditferent shades. It is destitute of polonaise ur uver- skirt, and the cords, interlaced in Ambic de- sigus, form 2 most urigue snd handsome trim- ming, bemg placed on the edire of a deep tiounce and arranged im_proportionate widihs on other portions of the dress. Society is on the qui vive regarding THE APPROACHING MARNIAGE of the Princess Mercudes of Montpensier with her cousio King Altonso. The eclat ol the ve- casion promises to excel that of any other Royal marriazé of modern’ times, and as advanced preparztions prove that ucithier the King nor the Duke de Montpensier regards the opposi- tion of numerous wecwbers of each family to the arrangement, the pretty Mcrcedes will marry King Alonso in o Tew weeks. The Princess of the Asturins bitterly opposes this, as sheis the next heiress to the throne in the event of ber brother, King Alfonso, dying child- less; and no efforts are made to disguise her hatred towards ber cousin Mercedes.
