A specint train over the Chicago, Rock Intand d& Pacifle ftailroad con- veyed abit 150 people to the building, where the nuinber was Increased by others who had come fu from the country In carriages. Half on hour was itevoted to an examination of the building, the visitors exptoring it from garret to basement. A meeting was then held In the chapel, presided aver by the Rev. D. B. Cheney, D.D., who read a portion of the nincteenth palm. ‘The Rev. Louls Raymond led in prayer, alter which a bymn was sung. DH. CHENEY welcomed tie audience to Morgan Park, and sald that the Board bad pasecd an anxtous, though hopeful, year while the question of constructing: this building-was in hand. ‘The tnportance of the work had slways been near his fieart, and had becowe more and more impressed on hls mind within the past two mouths. The ficld was white to the harvest, aud tho speaker hoped that the young men educated in the Seminary would not alt crowd into the citles, but would go out into the newer settlements to sow Che eced of the world, Dit. Ne ther was it a transient work, for such Institutions rarely died. ‘This was the only — theological seminary west uf Rogheater, Ne Y., under tho full control of the Baptist denomination. [ta establishment right here fu the ceutre of population and po litical power could not Iail tu have a great ef- feet upon the future of the Church. The gen inary Was distinctive in that it had a special three years’ course fur the instruction of young met who had trot been called of God to the min- iatro until it was too late for them to obtuln a regular university education. Another point was the Scantinuvian class, in which twelve worn educated fast year. The Professor in this departutent, Prof. Ederin, had worked along he- roleally, almost without support, and the young men educated by lin “had been greatly blessed in thie =owork. In the yn years during which the speaker bad been connected with the Sembuary they had turned out 30 young men, Lad accumulated a library of 20,000 volumes, probably the best in. tle Weat, und had acquired this bullding/and the ong Ip Chicave which they had so far occupied. Thad been judged best to start in with a first- mite Semiuary, for the competition with educa- tlonal institutions in the East was so greut that it was impossible to retain young men in the West unteas a thorough education was given them. ‘The Rev, 1. He owed $341 on account of furniture, which must be paid within ten dove, and alte- ficther there was about 700 due un thls account. ‘They hoped for donations from 100 churches or private donors for furulehing the different rooms. It was revoguized that the Faculty at Morgan Park ranked very high, and that Dr, Northrup stuod alone iu his profession. The Rev. Dr, Custis, of Michigan Avenue Church, spoke of the inilucuce to be exercised in the future by the Seuluary, arid bore teati- mony te the cificency of the instructors. He cominended the institution to the hearts and pockets of his bearers, ‘he Rey, Mr. Chapin, of Evanston, and Prof, Kistler, of the Northwestorn Untversity, spoke brielly, and the meetlug terminated with the doxology. THE NEW LOCATION of the Baptist Theological Seminary is a very fineone, ‘The building stands on an clevated plaveau, nearly 100 feet above the level of the 9 and the grounds contain over five acres, Until now the Seminary line been overshudowed by the Univeraity, closely shut in by ather buildings, avd cramped for space. Gesner, who was acrested here Iast month for forgery, sare: Jt will be remembered that when the witness Ely i. Weston was undergoing examination In the Gesner case at the Tombs Inst Thureday, a. package was produced fo court which Weston declined to identily, He sald, however, that be had bten atven a package, elinilar in oppear- ance by Geaner in Chicago last May; that ‘he supposed It contained mouey and ltd ft in hts barn for safe keeping, and that he had discluaed the whereabouts of the package to Jayne and the other detectives, The truth of the mat- ter fs, that the package which Weston declined to fdentlty as the one aiven hin by Gesner was in reality the very package piven ‘hin, aml tt cou- tained evidence both agatuet himself and Gesner of s must damaging deseription. The packuye wasn large, scaled white cnyelupe, wrapped up tna Chicago newspaper of Aug. 8, 1877. ‘The envelope contained two dralte prepared for “ raising,” a package of trackuy-paper used by forgers, and several alips of traclug-payer on which the fling of the two drafts which the envelope contained, and the tractug of another draft which it was subsequently learned fad been destroyed, had been taken before the dratts were made ready for “ralsing." BKIMEUL. Henry 2.
