Mrs, Ada Dudley, of Wor- cester, Mass, was on her way to Puch Jo, Cot. to’ join her husbant. She hus been sick, since last Api, and the physl- vians in her Eastern home bad pronounced her malady consumption, and advised her to go to Colonido for her health. She was considerably rin down, weak, and nervous, but she neverthe- less summoned the strength to take the jour- ney. All went well until ahe reached Newark, U., when the mob stopped the train, would not allow itto proveed further, and bebaved itecil asmoba generally do, Crightening the womcn, and even making cowards of nany of the sterner sex. Mrs, Dadley’s excitement and fright, her fear of | peraonal violence, her anxiety for her hueband, notwithetanding the fact that he was rafe several hundred miles away, were too much for her in her weak condition, ant her reason gave way. Fortunately she was not without friends, although they were almost total strangers to her. One noble young lady, u Mise Wood, of this city, had made her ac- quaintance during the trip, and a traveling- acquaintance intimacy had sprang up between them, In Mrs. Dudicy’s illness and aberation of mind, Mies Wood was indefatigable in her efforts to vare for the poor sufferer, As soon as trains resumed running, and Mrs, Dudley wasable to stand the trip, they started for Chicago. It so bappeued that Dr. MeVickar was on the train, ond was able to render considerable assistance to Miss Wood in caring for ber charge. He also advised her, on arriving in the city, aweek ago last Wednesday, to TAKE MRS. DUDLEY TO ST. LUER'S, where she would receive the beat of treatment. Miss Wood accordingly procured a carringe aud she and her burden were driven to the hospital, whero Mrs. Dudicy was at once placed under the care of Dr. Brown. And Miss Wood's atten- tion did not cease here. She volunteered to nurse the unfortunate lady during her stay at tho hospital, and not a day has pagsed without a vist from ber. A Titucsn reporter called at St. Luke's yeaterday and saw Dr. Brown, who expreesed the samo opinion that shoe would in all probabllity recover from her mental allment, provided her life could be saved. Owing, how- ever, to her very enfeebled physical conuition, ho had some doubts whether her Ife could he spare, although there was still some hope left, and everything was being done that was possi- bic to secure thatend. He stated that her mental malady was acute imanis, and that at tines she had been very violent.
