He declines to give sny provious intimation of what his address will contain, but it may be suthoritatively sald that §t will contain nothing which challenges in any way the right of President IHlayes to the Electoral voto of the State. BENSATIONAL DISPATCHES sent from here to tho effect that evidence Is be- ing collected to prove that Tilden wns rightfully entitled to tho Btate arcuntrue. One appear- ing In the New York Tribune, that the Commis- sloners of Election in New Orleans were prepare ing a statement that this city was returhed for Hayes when it should have been given for Til- den, is ahsurd, as it was sctually returned - for Tilden by nearly 10,000 majority. . TITE TROOPS. . All tho nccessary arrangements havo been made for the romoval of the troops from the Orleans Fotel, Mechanica’ Institate, and the Custom-House to the Jackson barracks at the lower end of the city to-morrow at noon. Ta the ballot for United Statos Befiator to-day, 1729 votes were cast, of which 100 were blank. ‘This exemplifica the fact that the man with the longest purse will win, Nelther of the three principal candidates—8pofford, Jonss, and Gibson~wers batloted for. Tho Dem. ocrat published futerviews with these threo gentlemen this morning, and each declares his intentlon, it elected, of supporting tho Haycs policy s0 far as it 1s In the intcrest of tbo 8 outh, and of malntaining the rights of the colored peoplo. Each favars Uovernment ald for the Texus Pacific Rallrod, lovees, and other publie works {n the Bouth~in short, THE OLD ¥LAG AND AX APPEOTRIATION, Gibson and Jonas each made. the particular point that the Kepubllcans, through Senator Edmunds, had made a suggestion {n favor of the curtallment of the rizht of sulfrage, but thoy should opposc the dlstranchisement of any nortlon of the culored peaplo, as this would cot duwn the ropresentation of the Bonth fn Con- grees. TIR DEMOCTATIC CAUCUS TO-NIGHT, coatrary to expectation, decided upon a uomina- tion for Bcuator, Judze . M. Spofford securing tho prize. Second ballot—SpofTord, 433 Jonas, 89, Judge Bpoffurd's numination was thenmade unanimous, This puts to reat the idea of the clectlon of a conscrvative Republican, The Deinocrats were of opinion that whoever they elect would be seated, and they have consc- %uenuy choscn the ableat expouvent of extrema emocratic scttiment in ulsiana, Judge Bpofford was careful to say, In his Interview referred to above, that he would _lll}:port Presl- dent Hayes' polley so far ns it was favorable to the Bouth, A HEPUDLIOAN LEGISLATIVE CAUCCS was held to-night In the State-louse, very ful- ly stteuded, No decision was arrived at cou- ceruing the Scoatorship, Indced, it was hardly discussed. It fs an open question with Republican members whetlier they will vote for hlm or vote blank. Bome will probably pursue one course and soms the other., TS REPUBLICAN STATE OFFICLALS have not yet decided as to tho exact manner In ‘which they will dispose of thelr offices. Thero s a difference {n the legal status of the Audit- or, Attorney-Goneral, Becref of Btate, and Buperintendont of Education, and the Gov- ermor and Lisuteuant-Governor, I this respect, that the two latter oflicers aro, by the Coustil tion, required to euffer a canvass of Lhie voles Dy the Leglalature, in_which respcct the defect 1a claimed, while the four former are under no such nocessity, and the promulgation of the Returning Board {u thelr case is final, They will, bowever, boousted. Two or three weeks ago Tas TaiBUNE an- pounced that the mansgers of the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne & Chicago and Chicago & Alton Rallagnds had coma to the conclusion that It would be n disgrace to allow the dilapidated barns, cornerof Madison and Canal streets which now docs duty as a depot for tnese great rosds to serve Lhis purpose any longer. At that time It was stated that they didnot contemplate erecting a grand and ‘elaborate struciure, but = comfortable temporary build. ing, which was to. cost about 1000, this depot o serve until the roads wern bettet able to make n large outlay for & ermancnt Grand Unioo depot. Beveral meet- ings have since been held between the managers of the roads lennmulns at the cor- mer of Canal and Madison streets to decide upon the details of the contem- Ehml building. After louk]n? over the whule eld pettinztip estimates, ete., they found that to build a half-way respectable temporary depot for the three roads would cost inore money than st first estinated. They went further in their calculations and found that with the preseut low wages of labor and the cheap prices of bullding material, it would be more economical inthe end to begin at once tne ercction of a permanent Grand Union Daopot, and finally it was decided to erect such an one ns will be an honor to the roads and a credit to thecity. Mr. Slataper, Chief Engineer of the Pittsburg & Fort Wayne, has drawn upa plan for the new depot which was to lave been adopted at a meeting of the managers ot tho hlugo & Alton, Pitttaburg & Fort Wayne, and Chicago, Milwaukce & 8t Paul Ratlroads, n few days ago. But as Mr. McCul- lough, of the Pittsburg, ¥ort Wayne & Chicago, falled to put in an appearance, final action oa the plan bad to be postponed. ‘The depot as skctched by Mr. Slataper will cost In the neignhorhood of $300,000. Tho length of the entire stracture will be from - Madison sircet to Van distance of about 1,300 feet. It will be divided In two parta by Adams strect viaduct; the Pittsburz & Fort Wayne and Chi- e:ga & Alton occupying the lower half, between Adams and Van Buren streets, and the L‘hlcm\nhmwmkee & B8t. Paul, and other Buren; 's { Il:lu'htfit :nay 'fln}dn to "mmu in at point, will " ucey) ho upper hatt. The h'ixudm{.- Whict 1 tocontaln the Wit ing-rooms, etc., will have elgh:':!l feet front on Canal street, and 200 fect on Adams street, and will on A lovel with tbe wiaduct. The space underncath will be arched and used for baggage-rooms, ete. This bulld- ing will form the ceotro of the depot sud will be surrounded on all stdes by & wiaduct or bridgo so that It can be entercd at all points without {nterfering with the traflic of Adams strect. From the walting-roomsspiral stalrs will Tead down to the depot proper, which axtends to Madison street on the north, and to Van Buren street on the south, Those who arrive by the varlous trains nced not go up through the cen- tre bulldlog, but can take the bus or carriago rig| whero the get out, & carriage-way or drive leading along Canal street, coming out both on Madison and Van Buren' streets. The centre building containipg the . waiting rooms, ticket oflices, etc., will bo very orna. mental ~ and constructéd of stone and brick. The two wings will bs of jron with roofs of corrugsted frou and glass, The oillars lunwlnlm‘ the roofawill also Lo bLishly ornamental. ¢ the lan {s adopted, and there (s no doubt but that t will, the depot will be as fine and convenlfent as any In the country and will geeatly onhance the ‘value of real estate. lu that portion of the clty, and the dilapldated old rookerles on the weat alde of Canal stroct between Madison and Van Buren, will undoubtedly bo supplanted by structures which will larmonize with the Improved conditfon of the other side.of tbe strcet.
