THE BUSINES$-MEN'S MEETING. The mass-meeting at Farwell Iiall la:t evening, called by the business-men of the South Side, was very weill attended, 8 much larger number of peo- ple being present than was expected, owing to the multiplicity of ward-meetings, which are more attractive thun general meetings just now. All know something of the records of the heads of the tickews, aund have made up their minds 2s to those oficers; but they are after information regarding the new men nominated for Aldermen, and it is ouly at the purely local meet~ ings that such information can be obtained. Not- withstanding this drawbuck, there were nearly 500 merchants in Farwell Hall 1ast evening. aund they were a3 enthusiostic, if not more o, than the people who are in the habit of attending such gatherings. They were called to order by Mr. George Schneider, who nominated A. M. WRIGHT > for President. Mis appearance was halled with clapping of hands, and, in taking the chair, he said they came 83 Republicans, —not as partisans of any particular individual, but as recruits in the great Republican army, owing alleziunce only to the meu who were chosen leaders by the Conven- tion. |Applanse.] As oncof the candicates, he felt nimself bound tosapportits nominees. [Applanse.} And he ceheved all the disappointed aspirants would uoite with him in promoting the snccess of tuose nominated. [Applause.] The enewmy were trying to plice the Kepublicans on the de- fensive fur the purpose of diverting the minds of the people from the main lssue of the canvass. They had nothing to defend. There were many £uod_Teusuns Why toe people should support the Kepublican ticket. 1t was suid one of the candi- dotes had committed a fault. Suppose it was true. Were not the argomentswhy he should be supported numervws envdzh o outweigh it? Should the Democracy_be trusted with the City Government? Look at New Yori, St. Loais, Mil- waokee, where they hud had power! Did the people of tnis city want to place Chicago dn the same coudition?
